  1. 11. Bringing human rights due diligence into law: Addressing modern slavery or business as usual? : A postcolonial assessment of the UK Modern Slavery Act’s compliance with the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Teologiska institutionen

    Author : Isabelle Kämpe; [2023]
    Keywords : UK Modern Slavery Act; MSA; UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights; UNGP; modern slavery; human rights due diligence; HRDD; supply chain; transparency; postcolonialism; neo-colonialism; dependency theory;

    Abstract : Operating through complex supply chains and multiple jurisdictions, today’s business enterprises can outsource manufacturing to different parts of the world where they can take advantage of low labour- and production costs. In the global quest for businesses to maximise their profits, deteriorating working conditions for offshore labour workers are increasing the risks of human rights abuses. READ MORE

  2. 12. The black hole information paradox and holography

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Teoretisk fysik

    Author : Ona Mola Bertran; [2023]
    Keywords : information paradox; semiclassical physics; holography; AdS CFT correspondence; island formula; entanglement entropy;

    Abstract : Hawking theorized in 1974 that black holes emit particles as a quantum effect. It follows from this fact that a black hole that emits particles while absorbing none ends up evaporating. The process of black hole evaporation studied from semiclassical gravity violates quantum mechanics leading to serious problems. READ MORE

  3. 13. Are renewable sources displacing fossil fuels in electricity generation? : A panel data investigation on global data

    University essay from Högskolan Dalarna/Nationalekonomi

    Author : Andreas Sörling; [2023]
    Keywords : Climate change; Energy transitions; Green Growth; Displacement Paradox; Jevons Paradox; Panel Data;

    Abstract : As the consequences of climate change is increasing the need of replacing fossil fuels with renewable energy globally is becoming more urgent. A central question that has been questioned in the literature is that if the world is on track on a transition away from fossil fuels or if we are only adding renewable energy to the energy mix in a world that continues to grow and consume more energy. 4. 14. Towards Greener Pastures: Management of Corporate Sustainability Tensions in Internal Investment Decision-Making Processes

    University essay from Handelshögskolan i Stockholm/Institutionen för redovisning och finansiering

    Author : Ludwig Donath; Martin Lindström; [2023]
    Keywords : Internal Investment Decision-Making; Corporate Sustainability Tensions; Resource Allocation Process; Capital Budgeting Process; Paradox Theory;

    Abstract : This qualitative study investigates the integration of corporate sustainability in the internal investment decision-making process and how potential corporate sustainability tensions are managed through the process. The two investment processes for capital investments and product developments were analyzed as the processes consider different Scope emissions and are both essential in organizations' endeavors towards a greener future. 5. 15. Cosmological Horizons and the Unruh Effect

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Teoretisk fysik

    Author : Niklas Engelhardt Önne; [2023]
    Keywords : Unruh effect; quantum scalar fields; Bogoliubov transformations; accelerated observers; Minkowski spacetime; cosmological horizons; Rindler observers; special relativity; QFT; Unruh-effekten; skalära kvantfält; Bogoliubov-transformationer; accelererande referenssystem; Minkowski rumtid; kosmologiska horisonter; Rindlerobservatörer; speciell relativitetsteori; QFT;

    Abstract : The black hole information paradox, which states that the evaporation of black holes due to Hawking radiation results in a violation of the conservation of quantum information, is arguably one of the most fundamental problems in all of modern physics. Through the equivalence principle, the essence of the problem can be understood and studied in the context of much simpler flat spacetime (described by the theory of special relativity); in this context the Hawking radiation takes the form of the so-called Unruh effect, a thermal effect in the vacuum of a Minkowski quantum field theory that can be measured by accelerated observers.
