  1. 1. Computation of Acoustic Wave Propagation Under Water

    University essay from KTH/Matematik (Avd.)

    Author : Frida Thörn; [2022]
    Keywords : Wave equation; Helmholtz equation; Waveholtz iteration; finite difference method; summation by parts; energy method; point source; curvilinear coordinates; vågekvationen; helmholtz ekvation; waveholtz iteration; finita differens methoden; energimetoden; punktkälla; kurvlinjära koordinater; kroklinjiga koordinater; SBP;

    Abstract : In this thesis we look at acoustic wave propagation under water. We look in particular at waves generated by a point source and what happens with the propagation when we model the bottom as flat or as curvilinear. We assume the source to be working at a certain frequency and therefore we model this problem by solving the Helmholtz equation. READ MORE

  2. 2. Inverse Heat Conduction problem of the Quenching a Rotary Cylinder by Multiple Water Impinging Jets

    University essay from Högskolan i Gävle/Avdelningen för byggnadsteknik, energisystem och miljövetenskap

    Author : Leticia Uriarte Sabín; [2021]
    Keywords : Quenching; Inverse solution; Unsteady heat conduction; Generalized minimum residual method; rotary cylinder;

    Abstract : The thesis deals with solving the time dependent inverse heat conduction and heat transfer problem of the quenching process of a rotary solid cylinder by multiple impinging water jets. The development of such investigation consists of two parts that complement each other. READ MORE

  3. 3. A Relation Between Anderson Acceleration and GMRES

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Matematikcentrum

    Author : Gustaf Lorentzon; [2020]
    Keywords : Numerical analysis; acceleration methods; fixed-point iteration; generalized minimal residual method; GMRES; iterative methods; numerical linear algebra; finite difference method; Mathematics and Statistics;

    Abstract : A very common type of problem within mathematics and numerical analysis are fixed-point problems, which can arise as sub-problems of optimization methods, differential equations solvers and much more. The most basic iterative approach for fixed-point problems is fixed-point iteration, special cases of which actually date back as far as the Babylonians, where it was used to to find the square roots of positive numbers. 4. 4. Image Processing using Graph Laplacian Operator

    University essay from KTH/Skolan för elektroteknik och datavetenskap (EECS)

    Author : David Wobrock; [2019]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The latest image processing methods are based on global data-dependent filters. These methods involve huge affinity matrices which cannot fit in memory and need to be approximated using spectral decomposition. READ MORE

  5. 5. GMRES and Weighted GMRES for solving nonsymmetric linear systems

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Matematik LTH

    Author : Gustav Kratz; [2016]
    Keywords : Nonsymmetric linear systems; Krylov subspaces; Iterative methods; Arnoldi; GMRES; Mathematics and Statistics;

    Abstract : The Implementation and some mathematical properties of GMRES and weighted GMRES (WGMRES) are described. Numerical experiments originally performed by Essai (1998) are performed to compare the two methods. GMRES and WGMRES are used to solve a linear system arising from the Poisson equation and compared with respect to computational effort.. READ MORE
