  1. 1. Influence from long-distance transport, local sources and precipitation on black carbon concentrations at a rural background field station in southern Sweden

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Kärnfysik; Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen

    Author : Kit Ming Yam; [2019]
    Keywords : Black carbon; black carbon concentrations; Hyltemossa station; Aethalometer; HYSPLIT; long-distance transport; local sources; precipitation; Physics and Astronomy; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Abstract : The year 2018 was the first complete year with aerosol observations at the rural background station Hyltemossa in southern Sweden. The aim of this thesis was to analyse and investigate the influence from long-distance transport (LDT) aerosols, local sources and precipitation on the black carbon (BC) mass concentration by utilising the Aethalometer and the HYSPLIT model, which estimated the BC mass concentration ([BC]) and simulated the origin of the LDT air masses to Hyltemossa, respectively. 2. 2. Possible Impact from Alaskan Forest Fires on Glaciers of St. Elias Mountains, Yukon Canada

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaper

    Author : Cham Hoang; Moa Stangefelt; [2015]
    Keywords : Alaska; St Elias mountains; forest fires; Black Carbon; albedo; HYSPLIT;

    Abstract : How great potential effect does the Black carbon emitted from the boreal forest fire region of Alaska have on the retreating glaciers of the St. Elias Mountains? In this study climate and forest fire history data of Alaska was run in the HYSPLIT wind trajectory model to generate trajectories originated from large occurring fires in Alaska from 2005 to 2014. 3. 3. Is there new particle formation in the marine boundary layer of the North Sea?

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Author : Natalia Kelbus; [2014]
    Keywords : Geography; Physical Geography; aerosol particles; new particle formation; nucleation; particle size distribution; NanoMap; Science General; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Abstract : The effect of aerosol particles on climate and the human health emphasizes the necessity to focus on the research about aerosol particles. Aerosol particles emitted due to anthropogenic activities increase the scattering and absorption of solar radiation in the atmosphere which leads to an increased cooling of the climate (direct effect).
