  1. 1. Polymerized Tubular Silicates in Lower Cambrian Carbonates – Biology or Chemistry?

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaper

    Author : Scott Green; [2022]
    Keywords : biosignature; tubular structures; Lower Cambrian; silica precipitation; bifurcating; biosignatur; rörstrukturer; Kambrium Serie 3; kiseldioxid utfällning; förgrening;

    Abstract : Shallow marine environments from the Lower Cambrian period were very different to shallow marine environments of today. Tubes of what was thought to be silica recovered from a partly dolomitized carbonate sample collected form a site near Indian Springs, Nevada could help further understand the chemistry and characteristics of such environments. 2. 2. Estimating the Early Evolution of Brachiopods Using an Integrated Approach Combining Genomics and Fossils

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Paleobiologi

    Author : Chloé Robert; [2019]
    Keywords : Brachiopoda; evolutionary history; phylogeny; Maximum likelihood; Bayesian inference; fossil calibrations; Brachiopoda; evolutionhistoria; fylogeni; Maximum likelihood-metoden; Bayesiansk statistik; fossilkalibering;

    Abstract : The Brachiopoda, a major group of the Lophotrochozoa, experienced a rapid early evolutionary diversification during the well-known Cambrian explosion and subsequently dominated the Palaeozoic benthos with its diversity and abundance. Even though the phylogeny of the Lophotrochozoa is still hotly debated, it is now known that the Brachiopoda are a monophyletic grouping. READ MORE

  3. 3. Distribution of Sabellidites (Annelida?) in the Basal Cambrian of the Digermulen Peninsula, Arctic Norway

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaper

    Author : Frida Hybertsen; [2017]
    Keywords : Ediacaran; Cambrian; Sabellidites; biostratigraphy; Digermulen Peninsula; Arctic Norway; Ediacara; kambrium; Sabellidites; biostratigrafi; Digermulen;

    Abstract : The Digermulen Peninsula, Arctic Norway, offers a unique section of late Ediacaran to Cambrian sediments in an almost complete succession within the Vestertana Group. The proposed annelidan fossil Sabellidites cambriensis is found here, within the Lower Breidvika Member and is believed to exist also in the underlying Manndrapselva Member of the Stáhpogieddi Formation. 4. 4. Paleontology and Sedimentology of the Alum Shale Formation at Björnberget, Västerbotten County, Sweden

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaper

    Author : Mannelqvist Alexander; [2016]
    Keywords : Brachiopoda; Acrotretida; New species; New locality; Alum Shale Formation; Brachiopoda; Acrotretida; ny art; ny lokal; Alunskifferformationen;

    Abstract : A new locality of the Alum Shale Formation at Björnberget, Västerbotten County, of the lower allochthon of the Caledonian front is described herein. Two new species of acrotretid brachiopods were found. Tingitanella vilhelminia n. sp. READ MORE

  5. 5. The first study of the micro-fauna of middle Cambrian olistoliths in the Argentine Precordillera

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaper

    Author : Elise Fahlgren; Maria Tranvik; [2015]
    Keywords : Olistolith; Burgess Shale-type preservation; middle Cambrian; Precordillera; Micropaleontology;

    Abstract : This study implies a survey of a somewhat unexplored Cambrian carbonate formation in the Argentine Precordillera (AP) located in western Argentina, close to the city of San José de Jáchal. The carbonate platform of the AP is a unique piece of the South American geology and is in this study partly surveyed and compared with the Stephen Formation of northern Canada, a middle Cambrian unit renowned for its contents of exceptionally well preserved soft bodied fossils named the Burgess Shale biota.
