  1. 1. Combined production of bioethanol and biogas from wheat straw

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Kemiteknik

    Author : Victor Gustafson; [2015]
    Keywords : chemical engineering; lactic acid; biogas; enzymes; enzymatic hydrolysis; energy recovery; ethanol red; bioethanol; wheat straw; steam pretreatment; inhibitors; kemiteknik; Technology and Engineering;

    Abstract : Currently the production cost of lignocellulosic ethanol is considered to be relatively high. Large fractions of the production cost come from the raw material and the energy consumed in the distillation. Therefore it is desirable to have a process that yields high concentration of ethanol and maximizes the utilization of the biomass. READ MORE

  2. 2. Identification of Novel Regulators of Mitochondrial Protein Quality Control

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Tillämpad biokemi

    Author : My Bratbakken Lundvall; [2015]
    Keywords : Oxidative Stress; Mitochondrial Quality Control; Ubiquitin ligases; Ubiquitin; Yeast; Parkinson s Disease; Mitochondria; Paraquat; Oxidative Damage; Superoxides; tillämpad biokemi; applied biochemistry; Technology and Engineering; Chemistry; Biology and Life Sciences;

    Abstract : Chronic pesticide exposure has been linked to several human diseases including cancer, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, multiple sclerosis, cardiovascular disease, and kidney disease. Due to the potential risks to human health, the usage of pesticides has been a controversial topic. READ MORE

  3. 3. Acid hydrolysation of starch and formulation of starch microspheres

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Food Technology and Nutrition

    Author : Zahrai Najeeb; [2015]
    Keywords : starch microspheres; Starch acid hydrolyze; Rheology; läkemedelsteknologi; pharmaceutical technology; Technology and Engineering;

    Abstract : The aim of this diploma work is to investigate the acid hydrolyses of two types of starch, waxy barley and maize starch to be applied for further usage, in rheology studies and formulation of starch microspheres. Modified starch has always been essential in many areas, especially in tablets, where it could be used as a disintegrant. READ MORE

  4. 4. A platform for Acetyl-CoA synthesis using xylose as feedstock in Saccharomyces cerevisiae

    University essay from Chalmers tekniska högskola/Institutionen för biologi och bioteknik

    Author : Oliver Englund Örn; [2015]
    Keywords : Saccharomyces cerevisiae; xylose utilization; acetyl-CoA platform; metabolic;

    Abstract : Global rise in temperature and diminishing oil reserves has stimulated a market of alternative replacements to traditional petroleum based products. An alternative is the use of a bio refinery capable of converting biomass to the normally petroleum based products. READ MORE

  5. 5. Elucidation of the role of the MICOS complex in signal transduction from mitocondrial DNA nucleoids

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Tillämpad biokemi

    Author : Michael Hellman; [2015]
    Keywords : applied biochemistry; tillämpad biokemi; Chemistry; Technology and Engineering; Biology and Life Sciences;

    Abstract : The MICOS complex protein MicF has recently been identified to play a vital role in the mitochondrial DNA inheritance checkpoint, a control system that halts cell cycle progression in cells lacking mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA). We show in this report that another member of the complex, MicA, also plays an important role in the mtDNA inheritance checkpoint as its deletion led to cell cycle progression in cells lacking mtDNA (Rho0 cells).
