  1. 16. Lipid oxidation in differently aged beef : use of static headspace gas chromatographic and 2-thiobarbituric acid reactive substance methods (TBARS)

    University essay from SLU/Dept. of Animal Nutrition and Management

    Author : Jinzhu Wen; [2013]
    Keywords : lipid oxidation; beef ageing; TBARS; static headspace gas chromatography;

    Abstract : This thesis assesses and compares lipid oxidation in beef samples from different ageing approaches by using static headspace gas chromatographic method and 2-thiobarbituric acid reactive substances. Beef samples were compared between three different ageing methods: hang ageing (traditional dry ageing); vacuum bag ageing (wet ageing); and tublin bag ageing and two ageing durations, 10 days or 21 days. 2. 17. Olfactory discrimination performance and longterm odor memory in Asian elephants (Elephas maximus)

    University essay from Institutionen för fysik, kemi och biologi; Tekniska högskolan

    Author : Alisa Rizvanovic; [2012]
    Keywords : Asian elephant; Elephas maximus; Behavioral testing; Olfactory discrimination; Olfactory memory;

    Abstract : Behavioral evidence suggests that Asian elephants strongly rely on their sense of smell in a variety of contexts including foraging and social communication. Using a food-rewarded two-alternative operant conditioning procedure, three female Asian elephants were tested on their olfactory discrimination ability with 1-aliphatic alcohols, n-aldehydes, 2-ketones, n-carboxylic acids and with a set of twelve enantiomeric odor pairs. 3. 18. Enantioselective Preparation of ω-Functionalized O-Acylated Cyanohydrins

    University essay from KTH/Skolan för kemivetenskap (CHE)

    Author : Berenice Heid; [2011]
    Keywords : metal catalyst; enzyme; chiral; cyanohydrin; minor enentiomer recycling;

    Abstract : A minor enantiomer recycling one-pot process usingω-functionalized prochiral aldehydes as starting materials and two reinforcing catalysts has been reported. The desired aldehyde for these process studies was 5-bromo-1-pentanal. READ MORE

  4. 19. TREATMENT OF ODOROUS VOLATILE ORGANIC COMPOUNDS USING UV/H2O2

    University essay from KTH/Energiprocesser

    Author : Manases Fuh Nguo; [2011]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Odorous volatile organic compounds emissions from fried-food industries posed severed pollution problems both to the workers and the surrounding inhabitants. These industries need to look for cost effective and efficient methods to reduce these emitted gases. READ MORE

  5. 20. Olfactory sensitivity of spider monkeys (Ateles geoffroyi) for "green odors"

    University essay from Institutionen för fysik, kemi och biologi

    Author : Pia Katrine Løtvedt; [2011]
    Keywords : Ateles geoffroyi; green odors ; olfaction; olfactory detection thresholds; spider monkeys;

    Abstract : Primates have traditionally been viewed as having a poorly developed sense of smell. However, in recent years, studies have shown that at least some primate species use olfaction in a number of behaviors, and that they have a high olfactory sensitivity for various chemical classes of odorants.
