  1. 1. Petrography of impactites from the Dellen impact structure, Sweden

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Geologiska institutionen

    Author : Robert Mroczek; [2023]
    Keywords : Dellen; Impact; structure; magnetite; apatite; shock waves; shock-metamorphic; features; Impactite; petrography; scanning electron microscope; SEM; geology; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Abstract : Identification and characterization of shock-metamorphic features in hypervelocity impact craters is important for our understanding of how shock waves interact with geologic materials and how impact craters form, which in turn is essential to our understanding of what role impact cratering played in the development of our solar system. Of particular interest are accessory minerals like apatite, which contains various volatiles that can affect the atmosphere of a body, or magnetite whose magnetic properties constitute a remote sensing indicator which allows us to study and understand the internal structures of distant bodies. 2. 2. Determination of Proton Beam Waist Positions Using Beam Position Monitors

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen; Lunds universitet/European Spallation Source ESS AB; Lunds universitet/Synkrotronljusfysik

    Author : Gustav Gird Fahlström; [2022]
    Keywords : ESS; European Spallation Source; Proton beam; waist; BPM; Method; transverse; beam dynamics; beam physics; Lattice Error; Matrix formalism; Python; trajectory simulation; physics; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : In this work, we examine a novel method for the determination of proton beam waist locations using beam position monitors. Based on the lattice of the final transport line section of the European Spallation Source linac, a simplified version of the beam line composed of quadrupole magnets and correctors is constructed in Python using a matrix formalism. 3. 3. EBSD Investigation of High-Temperature Magnetite from Apatite-Iron-Oxide Deposits: Implications for the Formation of Giant Kiruna-Type Deposits

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Mineralogi, petrologi och tektonik

    Author : Jens Henriksson; [2022]
    Keywords : Kiruna-type deposit; electron backscattered diffraction; crystal settling; Fe-O systematics; crystal alignment;

    Abstract : European iron production is to a large extent dependant on massive Kiruna type apatite-iron ore deposits. In this contribution, high-temperature magnetite samples from apatite-iron-oxide deposits are investigated by means of Electron Backscattered Diffraction. However, the origin of Kiruna-type deposits is still unresolved. READ MORE

  4. 4. mRNA-based pharmaceuticals : A literature study based on current knowledge of mRNA

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för kemi - Ångström

    Author : Alicia Andersson; Isabella Åkerfeldt; Amanda Borgenstam; Ellinor Olsson; Adam Nyström; [2022]
    Keywords : mRNA-pharmaceuticals; mRNA therapies; mRNA vaccines; mRNA components; mRNA design; and mRNA applications.;

    Abstract : This literature study provides a comprehensive overview of the current knowledge of mRNA-based pharmaceuticals, technologies and applications.  mRNA-based pharmaceuticals have newly been bought into focus as a potential brand-new drug class and many believe that it has the potential to transform areas of medicine. 5. 5. Demonstrating quantum entanglement and Hong-Ou-Mandel effect, using type-II spontaneous parametric down conversion with C programming for data collection

    University essay from KTH/Fysik

    Author : Erik Svanberg; Johan Johannisson Lundquist; [2022]
    Keywords : Quantum entanglement; polarization; HOM; Hong-Ou-Mandel; indistinguishability; type-II SPDC; spontaneous parametric down conversion; non-linear crystal; beam splitter; indistinguishable photons; data collection in C;

    Abstract : Spontaneous parametric down conversion (SPDC) is used to generate quantum entangled photons through a non-linear crystal. The entanglement of photons is demonstrated by observing the effects of indistinguishability on photons, first through time and energy, then by polarization. The Hong-Ou-Mandel (HOM) effect was also demonstrated. READ MORE
