  1. 1. Wavelength-dependent limb darkeningin the analysis oftransit spectroscopy of exoplanets

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för fysik och astronomi

    Author : Alberto García Ribas; [2023]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Limb darkening, an optical effect characteristic of stars, where the limb (edge) seemsto be darker than the centre of the stellar body; plays an important role in our under-standing of exoplanetary transits, as it is fundamental for developing light curve modelsthat can help to undercover extrasolar companions. To recover atmospheric featuresfrom exoplanets, a principal component analysis method is typically used. READ MORE

  2. 2. Exploring New Physics Through Collider and Gravitational Wave Measurements with Artificial Neural Networks: the Case Study of QCD-like Technicolor

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen; Lunds universitet/Teoretisk partikelfysik - Geonomgår omorganisation

    Author : Ashar Ahmed Kamal; [2023]
    Keywords : Artificial Neural Networks; ANN; Beyond the Standard Model; BSM; parameter space scan; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : With physicists actively exploring Beyond the Standard Model (BSM) theories that may fill in the gaps of the Standard Model (SM), a fundamental question arises: which parameters hold physical significance? In this thesis, we present our initial progress towards the development of a model-independent artificial intelligence framework designed for conducting parameter space scans in BSM scenarios. Our framework incorporates several publicly available high-energy physics packages, namely SPheno, HiggsBounds, HiggsSignals, and CosmoTransitions. READ MORE

  3. 3. Development of a Complete Minuscule Microscope: Embedding Data Pipeline and Machine Learning Segmentation

    University essay from KTH/Tillämpad fysik

    Author : Kenan Zec; [2023]
    Keywords : Incubation-microscope; Machine Learning Segmentation; ESP32-Cam; Deep Learning; Inkubationsmikroskop; Maskininlärnings-segmentering; ESP32-Cam; Deep Learning;

    Abstract : Cell culture is a fundamental procedure in many laboratories and precedes much research performed under the microscope. Despite the significance of this procedural stage, the monitoring of cells throughout growth is impossible due to the absence of equipment and methodological approaches. READ MORE

  4. 4. Acoustic Focusing of Lysozyme Crystals

    University essay from KTH/Tillämpad fysik

    Author : Måns Junestrand; [2023]
    Keywords : Protein Crystals; Lysozyme Crystals; Ultrasound; Acoustic Focusing; SFX; Biomedical Physics; Proteinkristaller; Ultraljud; Lysozymkristaller; Akustisk fokusering; SFX; Biomedicinsk fysik;

    Abstract : Acoustic focusing of microscale protein crystals with acoustophoresis technology could reduce clogs during experiments with the scientific technique serial femtosecond x-ray crystallography (SFX). SFX determines molecular structures of proteins, these structures are valuable in drug discovery and fundamental biomedical research. READ MORE

  5. 5. Cosmological Horizons and the Unruh Effect

    Author : Niklas Engelhardt Önne; [2023]
    Keywords : Unruh effect; quantum scalar fields; Bogoliubov transformations; accelerated observers; Minkowski spacetime; cosmological horizons; Rindler observers; special relativity; QFT; Unruh-effekten; skalära kvantfält; Bogoliubov-transformationer; accelererande referenssystem; Minkowski rumtid; kosmologiska horisonter; Rindlerobservatörer; speciell relativitetsteori; QFT;

    Abstract : The black hole information paradox, which states that the evaporation of black holes due to Hawking radiation results in a violation of the conservation of quantum information, is arguably one of the most fundamental problems in all of modern physics. Through the equivalence principle, the essence of the problem can be understood and studied in the context of much simpler flat spacetime (described by the theory of special relativity); in this context the Hawking radiation takes the form of the so-called Unruh effect, a thermal effect in the vacuum of a Minkowski quantum field theory that can be measured by accelerated observers.
