  1. 6. Analysis of polyfunctional thiols in beer : Developing a novel method of extraction and analysis using GC-FID

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Livsmedelsteknik och nutrition (master)

    Author : Arvid Lindmark; [2022]
    Keywords : Beer; Hops; Thiols; 3MHA; 4MMP; Food Technology; Agriculture and Food Sciences;

    Abstract : In this project, attempts were made to identify and quantify two polyfunctional thiols – 4-mercapto-4-methyl-pentanone and 3-mercaptohexyl acetate – and three monoterpene alcohols – linalool, geraniol, and β-citronellol – in beer samples. In order to avoid the use of hazardous compounds such as dichloromethane and hydroxymercuriobenzoate, common in traditional methods, two novel techniques were tested: a pure liquid-liquid extraction of the beer samples with cyclohexane, and a liquid-liquid extraction with cyclohexane followed by solid phase extraction on silver ion columns. 2. 7. Sorption of novel side-chain fluorinated polymers to sediment - the impact of pH

    University essay from Örebro universitet/Institutionen för naturvetenskap och teknik

    Author : Hanna Erléus; [2022]
    Keywords : Scotchgard™; sorption; sediment; pH; side-chain fluorinated polymer surfactants; Lake Hjälmaren.;

    Abstract : Fluorinated compounds are produced on a large scale and their releases are contaminating the environment. Among these are side-chain fluorinated polymers found in technical mixtures of Scotchgard™, which are used as surfactants in fabric coating. READ MORE

  3. 8. Conditioning of chromatographic systems prior to metabolomic studies : Investigation of the conditioning effect and the possibility to alter it

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Avdelningen för analytisk farmaceutisk kemi

    Author : Jasmin Telo; [2017]
    Keywords : Analytical chemistry; metabolomics; metabonomics; conditioning; conditioning effect; UPLC; Q-TOF; HILIC; Protein precipitation; Liquid-liquid extraction;

    Abstract : The conditioning effect in metabolomic studies is the phenomenon of initial variation of analytical results in the first 5-10 injections of a biological sample in chromatographic systems. The deviation manifests itself as a drift in retention time, peak area and in multivariate analysis. READ MORE

  4. 9. Design of a solvent recovery system in a pharmaceutical manufacturing plant

    University essay from KTH/Skolan för kemivetenskap (CHE)

    Author : SHASHANK BHANDARI; [2016]
    Keywords : Batch distillation; liquid-liquid extraction; pressure swing distillation; pharmaceutical manufacturing; sustainable development;

    Abstract : Solvents play a crucial role in the Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) manufacturing and are used in large quantities. Most of the industries incinerate the waste solvents or send it to waste management companies for destruction to avoid waste handling and cross-contamination. READ MORE

  5. 10. Two techniques for investigation of proteins and short-chain fatty acids of Lactobacillus plantarum in presence of galactooligosaccharides

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Examensarbeten i molekylärbiologi

    Author : Marusa Bratus; [2014]
    Keywords : Biology and Life Sciences;

    Abstract : Popular science summary: This thesis is a starting point of a bigger project, aimed to develop synbiotic food supplements. The role of probiotics and prebiotics in human health is getting increasingly recognised as offering beneficial impact to the host. READ MORE
