  1. 1. Using a GIS to enable an economic, land use and energy output comparison between small wind powered turbines and large-scale wind farms: the case of Oslo, Norway.

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Author : Colin Potter; [2023]
    Keywords : Geography; GIS; Wind power; Renewable energy sources; urban wind energy; urban areas; planning; vertical axis wind turbines; comparative studies; urban integrated energy systems; Oslo; Roan; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Abstract : Responding to an identified knowledge gap, the study aims to determine if smaller wind turbines located on top of existing urban buildings are more resource efficient (land utilization and economically) than large scale wind farms. To answer this question, using a GIS, the resource efficiency of the Roan wind farm in Northern Norway was compared to a theoretical modeled installation of small-scale wind turbines on top of buildings within a 2km radius study zone in central Oslo. 2. 2. Exploratory Assessment of Machine Learning, Geospatial Methods, and Data Evaluation Techniques for Modelling Cooking Fuels in Colombia

    University essay from KTH/Skolan för industriell teknik och management (ITM)

    Author : Federico Naranjo Hernandez; [2023]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : This thesis evaluates the application of machine learning and Geographic Information System (GIS) methods to analyze Colombia's cooking fuels landscape. The study aims to identify socio-economic and geographical factors affecting cooking fuel choices and assess the predictive power of various machine learning algorithms using associative data. 3. 3. Use of Satellite Remote Sensing for Detecting Archaeological Features: An Example from Ancient Corinth, Greece

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Author : Emmanouil Papadakis; [2023]
    Keywords : Geography; GIS; Satellite Remote Sensing; Vegetation Indices; Classification; Archaeology; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Abstract : During the last few decades, satellite remote sensing has proven to be an important non-invasive method for archaeological research in order to detect ancient sites and manage existing ones. Archaeologists have tried in the recent past to embed Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and image processing techniques in their research as non-destructive approaches, which can allow a wider perception of archaeological landscapes and predict past behaviors. 4. 4. Developing a Geographical Information System for a water and sewer network, for monitoring, identification and leak repair - Case study: Municipal Water Company of Naoussa, Greece

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Author : Konstantinos Sourlamtas; [2023]
    Keywords : Water and sewer network; GIS; UAV; surveying; photogrammetry; orthophoto; geodatabase; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Abstract : This thesis presents the design and implementation of a Geographic Information System (GIS) for the Naoussa Municipality Water and Sewer Company for better water utility management. The methodology contained field data collection like the valves, sewer manholes, hydrometers, and hydrants in two ways, UAV photogrammetry, and traditional surveying, the georeferencing process, photogrammetric processing, the digitization of old paper maps and the geodatabase design. 5. 5. Analysing methods for visualizing time-series datasets in open-source web mapping

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Author : Viggo Lunde; [2022]
    Keywords : Geography; GIS; spatio-temporal; time-series open source; webmap; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Abstract : Geography is the study of knowledge in a given location, and history is the study of knowledge over time. The combination of changes over time has always been challenging to visualize in maps. READ MORE
