Gösta Adrian-Nilsson i den Europeiska modernismens kraftfält. Åren 1913-1921

University essay from Lunds universitet/Avdelningen för konsthistoria och visuella studier

Abstract: The essay entitled Gösta Adrian-Nilsson in the European Modernistic Power Field. 1913 – 1921, takes its starting point in the city of Berlin in 1912 when Gösta Adrian-Nilsson (GAN) meets the elite of the modern art world for the first time. The descriptive narrative strives to provide insight into how this movement influenced his art as well as his views on Religion and Philosophy. In so doing, a greater understanding is gained into how GAN synthesized external influences into his work while at the same time striving to develop his own artistic expression. In order to further enhance understanding of the artist’s meeting with the forces of European Modernism, the final part of the essay depicts four interpretations of GAN’s paintings typical for the time-period.
