A reliable SMPP implementation in Erlang

Abstract: Software failure is one of the main problems in computer systems. Especially in systems with demand for high availability, such as telecom systems. SMPP is a protocol for sending short messages between entities in the telecom network. This thesis describes the design and implementation of a highly fault tolerant and reliable SMPP server and client. The implementation is done in Erlang, a language that was designed for fault tolerance. After testing the fault tolerance, the developed software has been integrated into telecommunication systems in commercial use at Mobile Arts.
