Abstract: The public transport system today has a growing number of information sources that need to be presented to the driver. Most of these information sources are displayed on separate screens - viewing and interacting with all of them at once is not beneficial from a safety and economical point of view. A solution to this problem would be to create a common platform where the driver can interact with all the information sources on a single display. This thesis aim has been to research suitable operating systems for this target platform through a survey, which has led to the implementation and evaluation of Android on the platform. The target hardware has limited resources such as low memory and no GPU. Therefore two versions of Android have been implemented and evaluated to find out which one is the most suitable for the system. The implementations of the two Android versions have support for an external touch screen. The evaluation of the final systems shows that the target hardware is not suitable to run Android with acceptable performance. Expansion of RAM and the iintegration of a GPU is suggested to improve the performance of the system.
