Abstract: As for today, a large quantity of protein feeds is imported from other countries to be used in the Swedish dairy production. The main import is soya from Brazil. The soya-production in Brazil results in negative consequences for the natural environment in the area, and the long transport of the feeds requires a lot of energy. The organic dairy production in Sweden is, with the highest probability going to be forced to use 100 % organic feed to the cows in the year 2005, due to new EU-rules. These are some of the causes why there are reasons to look closer at the possibilities to feed Swedish cows with only Swedish feeds. In this study, I have looked at the KRAV-rules for organic feeding, where the goal is feeding with only KRAV-approved feeds. The most interesting protein crops, for example rape and rape products, field beans, peas and lupines are compared with soya bean meal. Crops that can be cultivated in Sweden, are studied in a literature review. Swedish feeding rations and a feeding ration made by myself is also included. I have investigated experiences among Swedish farmers according to feeding with 100 % organic feed to cows, through a questionnaire. Seven farms are included in the study. The answers at the questionnaire indicate that the organic feedings are working very well, according to the farmers. Some of the results from the study are that, according to experiments and experiences, feeding cows with only Swedish feed works, and that it also works with only home-produced crops. The biggest problem is providing the cows with enough rumen-stable protein. Most of the protein crops contains a lot of easy soluble protein, and would get a better composition of the protein after heat-treatment. The product Expro from rape is an example of that.
