Working Poor Thai immigrant entrepreneurs in Sweden
Abstract: Abstract: The study covers several aspects of Thai immigrant entrepreneurs in Sweden. The main focus is to study whether they should be regarded as ‘Working poor’ and why Thai working poor entrepreneurs in Sweden still continue their businesses. Moreover, employing the concept of the necessity and opportunity entrepreneur, the study explores their reasons to become an entrepreneur, and what kind of entrepreneurial process they employ more between the causation or effectuation process. In this study, I introduce a new perspective on measuring ‘Working poor’ by including qualitative information into consideration. The measurement includes contribution from entrepreneur’s family members who have engaged in the business. After conducting an interview with three cases, the results shows that all Thai immigrant entrepreneurs in this study are defined as ‘Working poor’, effectuation process is used more in smaller size businesses and Thai immigrant entrepreneurs tend to be necessity entrepreneurs rather than opportunity entrepreneurs. The study also reveals various reasons explaining why Thai immigrant entrepreneurs still would like to be in the business, although they are ‘Working poor’.
