3D Visualization of measured data

University essay from Luleå/Institutionen i Skellefteå

Abstract: This thesis has been an effort to create an application which can be used to
see measured values in a 3d environment. The program created uses OpenGL to
render the data and it's surroundings. The thesis also contains a brief
comparison of the pros and cons of other techniques such as the AVS/Express
visualization software. One of the most difficult obstacles was to find a
way to create the two-dimensional grid on which the data is mapped, but in
the end an algorithm which was sufficient for the application was used.
The application is currently only working with the Microsoft Windows
operating-system, but the source-code which is in C++ would be easy to
convert to any other operating system or to use GLUT(The OpenGL utility
toolkit).
