University essay from Umeå universitet/Institutionen för tillämpad fysik och elektronik

Abstract:

Voice problems are prevalent in several groups of occupations, and research is being made on identifying causes and finding effective treatments. Voxlog is a system for long-term measurements of voice use in natural conditions, consisting of a recording device, a measurement neck collar and dekstop software. The market penetration of Voxlog is low, and the manufacturer believes that acceptability problems might be the cause for this. The purpose of this work is to investigate and discuss the system acceptability and market success of Voxlog. In order to collect information about the Voxlog, its market, its users, their requirements andtheir opinions, multiple data collection methods including a survey, interviews and a literature review were employed. The results indicate that a central challenge for Voxlog is relatedto marketing, and ttingly illustrated by the marketing metaphor "crossing the chasm". To improve system acceptability, which is conrmed to be lacking, is part of this challenge.Based on the analysis, concrete suggestions for marketing and technical development are presented, which could help improve system acceptability and market success.
