Abstract: Climate change is today the most widespread concern and pressing issue facing humanity globally. It is humanity's most significant challenge in the last decade, and its impact on the environment is causing severe changes that force people to migrate from one place to another. The central focus of this thesis will be to investigate how effectively climate refugees are being protected under international law. Environmental migrants are people or communities that relocate due to environmental disasters, be they natural or artificial. This climate-induced migration problem is becoming a threat and raises environmental concerns, especially considering its consequences for governance, health and security. The study's main research objective is critically to examine the protection accorded to climate refugees. This study uses a literature review and analysis approach to accomplish the primary goal of this paper. This method is relevant to this thesis because it will analyse and systematically synthesise existing research and literature on climate refugees in international law. This method will be suitable and helpful in identifying and conducting comprehensive research on both primary and secondary sources of information. Environmental degradation and climate change have long impacted migration considerably, but governmental recognition of this link is relatively recent, so the current study has chosen it as its subject. Overall, the goal of this thesis is to contribute to a most excellent knowledge of the legal frameworks that exist to protect environmental migrants, as well as to identify places where additional legal safeguards may be required.
