Traffic information on mobile platforms - An evaluation using Android and push technology

Abstract: This report is the result of a master thesis at Chalmers University of Technology. The purpose was todesign and implement a traffic information system with focus on mobile platforms. The system interpretsDATEX II data from the Swedish road administration (Trafikverket) and parses the data to a spatial awaredatabase. Each system user can create a number of routes to travel and the parsed DATEX II data ispushed to the user’s smart phone. The mobile phone application described in this thesis has beenimplemented in Android. The suggested system can be used in several other purposes thanks to its pushtechnology and geographical aware database. Apart from the system this master thesis also researches theaccuracy of one of the accelerometers commonly found in smart phones today as well as gives suggestionsfor further work and suggestions for future applications.
