Abstract: The Swedish high speed train X2000 was constructed by ABB between 1989and 1998. The X2000 has in recent years been suffering of various problemsregarding the electronics in the railcar. Different properties of the electronicsystem makes the reliability less satisfying. The need for refurbishment istherefore substantial. The purpose with this report is to evaluate and give improvement proposalsof the electronic system, within the battery system for the X2000 railcars. The electronic system that is in use today were studied and described tounderstand what possible improvements that could be made. Research wasdone to investigate what power units the market hold for rolling stock andwhat solutions that was possible to realize. Two improvement proposals weredeveloped and presented. The first proposal imply a total modernization of the electronic system. Thesecond proposal is a less extensive solution which increases the lifetime of theoriginal electronic system. With the proposals described in the report, thesystem reliability is improved and voltage interferences are suppressed. Newconverters are introduced with higher efficiency and power density comparedwith those used today. This minimizes the losses and enables more free spacefor future installations in the railcar.
