Path of play. A tool to make it easier for preschool teachers to help children with low self-esteem, dare to participate in other children’s play, express themselves and go all-in in play.

University essay from Göteborgs universitet/HDK - Högskolan för design och konsthantverk

Abstract: Children and play are two words that are closely associated with each other, but play is actually something that children have to learn how to do. They learn the rules of play from adults and other children in their environment and then the phrase “practice makes perfect” are applied. But for some children it’s more difficult to play with others, especially for children with low self-esteem who don’t dare to engage in play and therefore pulls away from the company of other children. My design is made to help preschool teachers in their work to increase these children’s self-esteem and get them to dare to play with their peers. My design should be a tool that the preschool teachers can use in steps to help these children be more secure in themselves and in play. For the goal is to strengthen these children’s self-esteem and make them believe more in themselves, to help them be self-assertive, that they will dare to make their voices heard and that they can let themselves go all-in in play with other children at the preschool.
