Exploring VIDA search with user-centered design - Presenting two concepts for improving search usability in a vehicle aftermarket application
Abstract: This thesis reports on work to create user interface mock-ups based on user observations andinterviews to improve Vehicle Information Diagnostics for Aftersales (VIDA). Thisapplication is managed by Volvo Cars Customer Service and is used worldwide by Volvoworkshops. These mock-ups were evaluated by end-users in an iterative process in an effort totry to enhance the user experience and to eliminate problems with the user interface.VIDA includes many different types of functionality; there are ways to communicate with theVolvo car using a Bluetooth interface, update software in the car, find and read fault-tracingdocuments that help diagnose the problem, descriptions of how to remove faulty parts of thecar, install new parts and also documents describing the design of specific parts. In VIDAthere is a search function to help the users find these different spare parts, symptom codes orrepair documents. But there have been complaints from the users that the search functionalityin VIDA is not very good. Problems range from users ordering the wrong spare part to thatthe search for documents seems slow. As a result two concepts are described as use-cases andPhotoshop/PowerPoint mock-ups. The conclusion is that the proposed concepts are promisingbut needs more testing to see if they really are more usable than the current version. But thereaction from users at the different workshops and personnel at Volvo Cars Customer Serviceshow that it should be an increase in user satisfaction. This thesis shows that there are muchroom for improvements both in usability and in performance of VIDA.-----------------------------------------------------------------------//SammanfattningI detta arbete beskrivs skapandet av grafiska gränssnittsprototyper baserade på observationeroch intervjuer för att förbättra programmet Vehicle Information Diagnostics for Aftersales((VIDA).
