Mathematical analysis of planar crystals grown from vapor in bounded domains
University essay from KTH/Matematik (Avd.)
Abstract: The quasi-static evolution of planar crystals grown from supersaturation or dilute solutions are studied. A crystal is assumed to be an m-gon at all time, but not necessarily convex, in a domain with smooth boundary. The equations are of Stefan type coupled with the Gibbs-Thomson relation. We show local in time existence of solutions.
