System Testing of Distributed Systems Using Node-Based Framework

Abstract: Existing methods for testing distributed systems are discussed and compared. A prototype of a new tool with support for executing distributed tests is developed and discussed. The new tool supports writing tests consisting of multiple nodes which can be coordinated from a master node through the use of remote procedure calls. A detailed description of the design and functionality of the tool is given, as well as an overview of how the tool itself was tested. In addition, a use case is presented where the tool is used for testing a conceptual distributed system, and the tool is found to work well for its intended purpose.
