  1. 1. Carta ex Machina: Testing object-based machine learning and unsupervised classification in land use change detection mapping in the semi-arid governorate of Sidi Bouzid, Tunisia

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Author : Kristian Emil Havnsgaard Paludan; [2021]
    Keywords : Change detection; Land use mapping; LANDSAT MSS; LANDSAT TM; GEOBIA; Random Forest classification; ISODATA cluster classification; Object-based classification; Semi-arid agriculture; Irrigation mapping; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Abstract : Sidi Bouzid, Tunisia is an inland governorate in Tunisia that has undergone a rapid agricultural and urban development since the Tunisian independence in 1952 from being a rural and largely nomadic region into a hub of irrigated agriculture. In 2010 Mohamed Bouazizi sparked the Tunisian revolution by lighting himself on fire int he city of Sidi Bouzid, with some blaming the inequality and water scarcity created by this rapid expansion in the irrigation farming as an important cause (Bayat, 2017; Malka, 2018). 2. 2. Combining Smart Energy Storage with a Nordic PV Park : An explorative study of revenue-improving and cost-reducing battery services

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Byggteknik och byggd miljö

    Author : Amanda Bränström; Jonna Söderberg; [2021]
    Keywords : battery storage; energy storage; PV park; primary frequency regulation; energy arbitrage; NPV; VRE; Li-ion; service stacking;

    Abstract : With global climate change as the main driver, there is an increase towards including more variable renewable energy (VRE) sources in the electricity mix. Energy production from utilizing the photovoltaic effect, or PV power, is increasing rapidly and is visioned to cover 5 – 10 % of Sweden’s electricity demand in 2040. READ MORE

  3. 3. Att raka eller inte raka : en jämförelse av förekomsten av bakterier före och efter rakning inför venös blodprovstagning på hund

    University essay from SLU/Dept. of Clinical Sciences

    Author : Josefin Lindskog; Linn Ekberg; [2021]
    Keywords : bakterier; blodprov; desinfektion; hygien; päls;

    Abstract : I veterinärmedicinsk litteratur anges ofta att rakning bör ske inför blodprovstagning via v. cephalica på hund, då det anses vara mer hygieniskt. Dock finns det mycket få studier som undersökt den hygieniska aspekten av rakning. Däremot finns det konstaterade negativa effekter av rakning. READ MORE

  4. 4. Using Neural Networks to Predict Cell Specific Productivity in Bioreactors

    University essay from Umeå universitet/Institutionen för fysik

    Author : Frida Nordström; [2021]
    Keywords : machine learning; neural networks; nn; biopharma; sartorius; bioreactor; metabolic productivity; cell;

    Abstract : During production of certain biopharamaceutical drugs, cells are grown in a liquid mediainside bioreactors with the goal of producing a specic biomaterial that can be rened intoa drug. This project investigates whether the use of Neural Networks (NN) can decreasethe prediction error, in terms of Mean Squared Error (MSE), for 2 metabolic processes incells compared to current methods. 5. 5. Performance of joints for glued laminated timber exposed to the ISO fire temperature curve

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Avdelningen för Brandteknik

    Author : Jesus Gil; [2021]
    Keywords : Glued laminated Timber; Structural fire engineering; Fire performance; standard ISO fire curve; Joints; Technology and Engineering;

    Abstract : As society becomes more ecologically conscious there is a push toward the use of materials with a smaller environmental burden, one of these materials is glulam (GLT), which has gained a lot of traction in recent years not only for ecological reasons but for its ease in manufacture, transport, noise dampening, etc. The focus of this project was to evaluate the influence of different joint configurations on the fire performance of glulam members.
