  1. 6. Long-term Nitrogen Deposition and Recovery of Epiphytic Lichens : Concealed memory and implications

    University essay from Umeå universitet/Institutionen för ekologi, miljö och geovetenskap

    Author : Camille Volle; [2022]
    Keywords : epiphytic lichens; N deposition; boreal forest; recovery; critical load;

    Abstract : Anthropogenic activities have increased nitrogen (N) emissions. However, higher N deposition is associated with negative fallouts in ecosystems, highlighting the necessity to define its critical load (CLO). Lichens, with their lack of roots, stomata, and cuticles, are helpful air pollution indicators and can be used to establish N CLO. READ MORE

  2. 7. Estimation of dissolved organic carbon from inland waters using remote sensing data and machine learning

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Author : Lasse Harkort; [2022]
    Keywords : dissolved organic carbon; machine learning; remote sensing; inland waters; water quality; open source data; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Abstract : This thesis presents the first attempt to estimate Dissolved Organic Carbon (DOC) in inland waters over a large-scale area using satellite data and machine learning (ML) methods. Four ML approaches, namely Random Forest Regression (RFR), Support Vector Regression (SVR), Gaussian Process Regression (GPR), and a Multilayer Backpropagation Neural Network (MBPNN) were tested to retrieve DOC using a filtered version of the recently published open source AquaSat dataset with more than 16 thousand samples across the continental US matched with satellite data from Landsat 5, 7 and 8 missions. 3. 8. Activity Recognition for construction site process via real time sensor signals

    University essay from Högskolan i Gävle/Avdelningen för elektroteknik, matematik och naturvetenskap

    Author : Jaya Parmar; [2022]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Measuring construction tool activity has a potential to improve tool productivity, reduce down-time and give insights to various construction processes. Today, a lot of data is being recordedfrom a construction site. READ MORE

  4. 9. Forest structure of Dalby Söderskog National Park : patterns of carbon storage in living and dead trees

    University essay from SLU/Southern Swedish Forest Research Centre

    Author : Kumetra Achuthan; [2021]
    Keywords : ash dieback disease; deadwood; Dutch elm disease; living tree volume; coarse woody debris; carbon stock and storage; pest invasions; temperate mixed broadleaved forest;

    Abstract : Carbon sequestration and storage is an ecosystem service supplied by forests, and is of increasing importance in the context of mitigation of global climate change. Forest pest invasions, driven primarily by globalizations, represent a risk to the efficiency of carbon sequestration as they may greatly reduce the amount of the living biomass in forests. 5. 10. Järnets flora – en undersökning av vegetationsutvecklingen vid Röda Jorden

    University essay from SLU/School for Forest Management

    Author : Gunnar Abrahamsson; Jonathan Abrahamsson; [2021]
    Keywords : flora; holocen; pollenanalys;

    Abstract : Röda Jorden är ett kulturhistoriskt besöksområde i Skinnskattebergs kommun. På platsen finns förhistoriska järnframställningslämningar som daterats till 700 år före vår tideräkning. Idag finns en aktivitetsplats som drivs av Riddarhyttans Hembygds- och intresseförening, ”RHI”. READ MORE
