  1. 1. Major and trace element geochemical analysis of norites in the Hakefjorden Complex to constrain magma source and magma plumbing systems

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Geologiska institutionen

    Author : Aodhan Barrett; [2020]
    Keywords : Anorthosite; norite; Plagioclase; Hakefjorden Complex; Sweden; Trace Elements; Geochemistry; Magma Origin; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Abstract : Major and trace element data taken from plagioclase crystals from anorthosites and related rock units in the Hakefjorden Complex located off the west coast of Sweden were investigated for the purposes of constraining magma chamber processes and the source of the magma. Although the anorthosite units were completely homogenous in regards to its chemistry, the plagioclase in the associated norite and ilmenite-leuconorite units showed substantial variation. READ MORE

  2. 2. The Victims at Sandby Borg : Tracing mobility and diet usingstrontium analyses

    University essay from Stockholms universitet/Arkeologiska forskningslaboratoriet

    Author : Kerstin Calleberg; [2019]
    Keywords : 87Sr 86Sr; strontium; migration; Sandby borg; Öland; massacre; teeth; Migration Period; Iron Age; Laser Ablation;

    Abstract : Sandby borg, an Iron Age ringfort on Öland, Sweden has been and is still at the center of attention in media and archaeological research. The massacre uncovered at the site during recent years opens many doors for analyses on the Migration Period (c. 400-550 AD) Iron Age skeletal remains. READ MORE

  3. 3. Rb-Sr sphalerite data and implications for the source and timing of Pb-Zn deposits at the Caledonian margin in Sweden

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Geologiska institutionen

    Author : Alfred Larsson; [2018]
    Keywords : Laisvall; Granberget; geochronology; sphalerite; ore; Rb-Sr; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Abstract : The eastern Caledonian erosional front hosts the world-class Pb-Zn deposit at Laisvall (64 Mt mined) and Granberget mineralization, northern Sweden, along with several other smaller, related types of deposits consisting of impregnation mineralization of galena and sphalerite in clastic host rocks. Previous work have discussed the nature of the ore-forming processes and constraints for the timing of the mineralization, however, the mechanisms are still not fully understood and previous age determinations are ambiguous. 4. 4. Magmatic Sources and Processes Recorded by the Volcanics from the Izu Bonin Rear Arc

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaper

    Author : John Owen Edgar; [2017]
    Keywords : Izu-Bonin; plagioclase; magma; strontium; thermobarometry; rear arc; Izu-Bonin; plagioklas; magma; strontium; termobarometri; bakbåge;

    Abstract : The Izu rear-arc volcanism was investigated by IODP EXP350 in spring 2014. A total stratigraphy of1800 m was drilled, and contains volcaniclastic material within tuffaceous mudstone. READ MORE

  5. 5. Tracing the Origin of Metasedimentary Rocks in the Faroe-Shetland Basin

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaper

    Author : Sarah Eriksson; [2016]
    Keywords : Faroe-Shetland basin; Isotope correlation; metasediments; element analysis; Färö-Shetland bassängen; isotopkorrelation; metasediment; geokemisk analys;

    Abstract : The Faroe-Shetland region has been exposed to a long history of tectonic events and the geology in the area is rather complex. This history has led to the formation large metasedimentary deposits, though the origin of these deposits is not yet fully understood. Possible source areas are Greenland, Norway and Scotland.
