    Abstract : The region of Scania, Sweden has set the goal to become “Europe’s most innovative region” by 2020 and has realized the importance of promoting and supporting entrepreneurship at the different stages of the entrepreneurial process to achieve this goal. This thesis investigates the structure of the entrepreneurship support in the region, with the aim to discover whether a system of entrepreneurship exists presently, and what the systemic implications would be if such an approach is applied.     Abstract : Globalization is an increasingly pervasive factor in the economy, and due to the increasingly international market and competition, it is becoming progressively difficult for firms in traditional, mature industries in high-wage countries to remain competitive. This thesis highlights the case of the Småland-Blekinge region that is performing paradoxically well, largely due to a manufacturing industry that continues to prosper in the region, contradicting conventional predictions regarding economies of agglomeration, industrial manufacturing and competitiveness.
