  1. 1. The Unification of Germany and Regional Economic Convergence: Evidence from Real Wage Data, 1850-1889

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Ekonomisk-historiska institutionen

    Author : David Vesterager Husfeldt; [2022]
    Keywords : convergence; economic history; real wages; Germany; Business and Economics;

    Abstract : This thesis studies the regional development of Germany in the 19th century, examining whether there was an increased tendency toward economic convergence between the German states following the country’s unification. Through a quantitative analysis using real wage data on various German cities and regions covering the period 1850-1889, the study looks for evidence of beta-convergence both before and after the unification of 1871, as well as evidence for sigma-convergence during the whole period. 2. 2. Asymptotics of beta-Hermite Ensembles

    University essay from Linköpings universitet/Matematisk statistik; Linköpings universitet/Tekniska fakulteten

    Author : Filip Berglund; [2020]
    Keywords : beta-Hermite ensembles; Gaussian ensembles; empirical distribution function; level density; largest eigenvalue; order statistic; Sturm sequence; Hermite polynomials; beta-Hermite ensemblerna; gaussiska ensemblerna; empiriska fördelningsfunktionen; nivåtäthet; största egenvärdet; ordningsstatiska; Sturmföljder; Hermitepolynom;

    Abstract : In this thesis we present results about some eigenvalue statistics of the beta-Hermite ensembles, both in the classical cases corresponding to beta = 1, 2, 4, that is the Gaussian orthogonal ensemble (consisting of real symmetric matrices), the Gaussian unitary ensemble (consisting of complex Hermitian matrices) and the Gaussian symplectic ensembles (consisting of quaternionic self-dual matrices) respectively. We also look at the less explored general beta-Hermite ensembles (consisting of real tridiagonal symmetric matrices). READ MORE

  3. 3. Catch-Up with Me if You Can: An empirical analysis of convergence of carbon emission intensity in the EU power sector

    University essay from Handelshögskolan i Stockholm/Institutionen för nationalekonomi

    Author : Karl Sundblad; Sean Tay; [2019]
    Keywords : carbon emission intensity; EU power sector; stochastic convergence; beta-convergence; environmental economics;

    Abstract : The anthropogenic impact on climate change is discernible and the power sector is known to be one of the main contributors of greenhouse gas emissions. This thesis takes a cross-country sectoral approach with the overall objective of analyzing convergence of carbon emission intensity in electricity generation across the power sectors in the EU. 4. 4. Increasingly unequal? Convergence of real wages in the EU

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Nationalekonomiska institutionen

    Author : Daniel Edin; [2018]
    Keywords : real wage convergence; sigma convergence; beta convergence; european union; time-series convergence; Business and Economics;

    Abstract : The European union has taken steps to remove obstacles for labor mobility and per neoclassical economic theory this should lead to an equalisation of the real wages through an increase in labor mobility. Real wages is an important indicator of welfare and the equalisation process is called convergence by economists. READ MORE

  5. 5. Has EU membership lead to growth in the CEEC? : A study that examines the income convergence towards the EU-15

    University essay from Södertörns högskola/Institutionen för samhällsvetenskaper

    Author : Sellyhom Araia; Betiel Werede; [2014]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The European Union was created to promote peace and stability and evolved to become an economic union. Its member states are part of trade agreements where tariffs and quotas are abolished. Trade liberations lead to easier access of information and technology which in turn lead to faster growth.
