  1. 11. The biodegradable straw - Investigating how enzymes can be used to enhance desired product qualities of drinking devices.

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Matematisk statistik

    Author : Hanna Liang; Charlotte Parnefjord Gustafsson; [2020]
    Keywords : biodegradable; bioplastics; drinking devices; enzymes; fibre material; PHA; product design; statistical analysis; straws; Mathematics and Statistics;

    Abstract : The increasing production of single-use plastics negatively affects the climate. The resulting plastic ocean debris has fatal consequences to marine life. As a result, the European Parliament has placed a ban on single-use plastics by 2021, making it essential to study sustainable materials for single-use products such as straws. READ MORE

  2. 12. Adsorption of lysozyme on Silica Surfaces and Specific ion effects

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Kemiska institutionen

    Author : Guillem Onyos de Plandolit Ruiz; [2019]
    Keywords : Ellipsometry; mesoporous silica nanoparticles; surfaces; physical chemistry; fysikalisk kemi; Chemistry;

    Abstract : Biomedical application of nanoparticles is largely associated to their fate in biological media which, in fact, is related to their surface properties. Surface functionalitzation plays a key role in determining biodegradation, cytotoxicity and biodistribution through interactions which may be meditated by the macromolecules occurring in biological media. 3. 13. Validation of Biomarkers for the Revision of the CEN/TR 15522-2:2012 Method : A Statistical Study of Sampling, Discriminating Powers and Weathering of new Biomarkers for Comparative Analysis of Lighter Oils

    University essay from Linköpings universitet/Kemi

    Author : Robert Lundberg; [2019]
    Keywords : Oil fingerprinting; forensic; validation; GC-MS; oil spill sampling; diagnostic power; correlation; weathering; diesel; crude oil; biomarker;

    Abstract : The revision of the CEN/TR 15522-2:2012 methodology contains new biomarkers to facilitate forensic fingerprinting of the variety of oil types that can be a part of different crimes and the purpose of this project is to validate the biomarkers of the new methodology. Biomarkers were validated by examining corresponding diagnostic ratios compatibility with the internationally used sampling cloth, discriminating power, correlation and simulated weathering sensibility through GC-SIM-MS analysis followed by statistical evaluation with t-tests, diagnostic power, Pearson correlation matrices and MS-PW plots respectively. 4. 14. Biodegradation and ageing of bio-based thermosetting resins from lactic acid

    University essay from Högskolan i Borås/Akademin för textil, teknik och ekonomi

    Author : Lara Lopes Gomes Hastenreiter; [2019]
    Keywords : bio-based polymer; lactic acid; glycerol; ethylene glycol; pentaerythritol; biodegradation; ageing; characterisation; DSC; TGA; FTIR; tensile;

    Abstract : The need for replacing petroleum-based polymers has been increasing and bio-based polymers prove to be a suitable solution. The aim of this thesis was to synthesize bio-based resins with different chemical architectures to evaluate the effect of the structure on the properties and on their response to ageing and biodegradation. 5. 15. End-of-life scenarios for bioplastic food and drinking packages : a study of Swedish bioplastic waste disposal habitsand environmental impacts

    University essay from SLU/Department of Molecular Sciences

    Author : Tilda Hansson; [2018]
    Keywords : bioplastic; biodegradable plastic; compostable plastic; biobased plastic; PLA; Bio-PET; consumer;

    Abstract : The aim of this study was to investigate real end-of-life scenarios for some of the most common bioplastics, such as PLA and Bio-PET, for food and drinking packages in Sweden and to evaluate some of the potential environmental consequences of these scenarios. Life Cycle Analysis often evaluate intended end-of-life scenarios for bio-plastic products, but this study used an explorative research method, gathering infor-mation of the conduction and habits of bioplastics to evaluate if these scenarios were the ones occurring.
