  1. 1. Filtering aspects

    University essay from KTH/Skolan för teknikvetenskap (SCI)

    Author : Johannes Pape; [2023]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : In this report, a Fourier spectral approximation of the solution to the linear convection--diffusion equation for initial conditions of different smoothness, and for Burger's equation for the initial condition f(x) = sin(x), was constructed, and implemented. Three different filters (Cesàro, Lanczos, and 4--th order exponential cutoff) were either applied to the initial condition or to the numerical approximation after the last integration step has been performed. 2. 2. Solving Korteweg-de Vries equations with Discontinuous Galerkin methods

    University essay from Linköpings universitet/Tillämpad matematik; Linköpings universitet/Tekniska fakulteten

    Author : Markus Hellberg Mediaa; [2023]
    Keywords : Discontinuous Galerkin; Korteweg-de Vries; Conservation Laws; Partial Differential Equations; Numerical methods; Higher order spatial derivative; Heat Equation; Burgers’ Equation; Collocation; Lobatto Gauss Legendre; Stiffness; Nodal Approximation; Finite Volume; Finite Element;

    Abstract : In this thesis the Discontinuous Galerkin approximation performance applied to the Korteweg–de Vries equation is investigated. This equation is nonlinear with a third spatial derivative and can be used for shallow water movement. READ MORE

  3. 3. Comparative Analysis of Adaptive Domain Decomposition Algorithms for a Time-Spectral Method

    University essay from KTH/Skolan för elektroteknik och datavetenskap (EECS)

    Author : Vilhelm Dinevik; [2020]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Time-spectral solvers for partial differential equations (PDE) have been explored in various forms during the last few decades. The generalized weighted residual method (GWRM) is one such method with a high accuracy and efficiency. The GWRM has so far been implemented almost exclusively with a uniform grid of subdomains in the spatial domain. READ MORE

  4. 4. Simulation of Viscosity-Stratified Flow

    University essay from

    Author : Victor Carlsson; Philip Isaac; Persson Adina; [2020]
    Keywords : Burgers equation; flow; SAT; projection method; boundary treatment;

    Abstract : The aim of this project is to study the viscous Burgers' equation for the case where the viscosity is constant, but also when it contains a jump in viscosity. In the first case where the viscosity is constant, Burgers' is simply solved on a singular domain. READ MORE

  5. 5. A stable and accurate hybrid FE-FD method

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för informationsteknologi

    Author : Tuan Anh Dao; [2019]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : We develop a hybrid method to couple finite difference methods and finite element methods in a nonconforming multiblock fashion. The aim is to optimize computational efficiency when complex geometries present. READ MORE
