  1. 1. Bootstrapping methods for assessing causality in survival analysis: A case study on major adverse cardiovascular events

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Matematisk statistik

    Author : Paulina Benthem Ciano; [2023]
    Keywords : Causality; Graphical models; Bootstrap; Survival analysis; Additive hazards model.; Mathematics and Statistics;

    Abstract : The combination of graphical models with Aalen's additive hazards model, resulting in a model known as dynamical path analysis, permits assessing the effects of different variables on times until an event and decomposing these total effects into direct and indirect effects. This thesis proposes novel bootstrapping methods designed for left-truncated right-censored data, conditional on covariates within the framework of Aalen's additive hazards model, in order to obtain confidence intervals for the estimates. 2. 2. Machine learning for risk ranking of component failure : A comparative study of traditional- and survival machine learning approaches applied to historical data

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Datalogi

    Author : Fredrik Nilsson; Fanny Fristedt; [2023]
    Keywords : Machine learning; Survival analysis; Trains; Freight trains; Damage prediction; Maskininlärning; överlevnadsanalys; tåg; godståg; Skadeprediktion;

    Abstract : This master thesis investigates the use of machine learning for predicting and assessing the risk of railway vehicle component failures. Data used for failure prediction often comes with limitations due to the complex nature of maintenance or sometimes requires investments for the extraction of information. READ MORE

  3. 3. Agricultural official development assistance: an assessment of empirical aid determinants : Trends and shocks of aid activity to agriculture from 2002 to 2018

    University essay from SLU/Dept. of Economics

    Author : Alessandro Giacardi; [2022]
    Keywords : Official development assistance; agriculture; aid; Tobit; panel data; developing economics;

    Abstract : This thesis uses an event approach to understand some under-researched aspects of bilateral development assistance (ODA) in the agricultural sector. The empirical findings on ODA analysis largely agree on some historical explanatory determinants, both political and economic, driving bilateral ODA. READ MORE

  4. 4. Survival Comparison of Open and Endovascular Repair Using Machine Learning

    University essay from KTH/Matematik (Avd.)

    Author : Aston Brunnberg; Gustaf Holte; [2021]
    Keywords : Master Thesis; Degree Project; Machine Learning; Survival Analysis; Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm; AAA; Kaplan-Meier; Survival Tree; Random Survival Forest; Neural Multi-Task Logistic Regression; DeepHit; Examensarbete; Masteruppsats; Maskininlärning; Överlevnadsanalys; Abdominellt Aortaaneurysm; AAA; Kaplan-Meier; Survival Tree; Random Survival Forest; Neural Multi-Task Logistic Regression; DeepHit;

    Abstract : Today there exists two types of preventive surgical treatment procedures for Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm. In order to make an informed choice of treatment, the clinician needs to have a clear picture of how the choice will affect the patients chances of survival. READ MORE

  5. 5. Censoring Bias in Oncology Clinical Trials

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Matematisk statistik

    Author : Andrea Mattsson; [2020]
    Keywords : survival analysis; censoring; progression-free survival; Cox proportional hazards model; oncology clinical trial; HER2CLIMB; Mathematics and Statistics;

    Abstract : Time to disease progression or death (PFS) is of main interest in oncology clinical trials. The data is commonly analyzed using a Cox model. Early discontinuation gives uncertainty in the estimated hazard ratio (HR). Censoring is generally used to handle discontinuations. READ MORE
