  1. 1. Evaluation of Refined Tribological Properties of Diamond Coated Cutting Tools Used in Machining of High-Strength Aluminum Alloys : Master thesis report regarding refined frictional & wear behavior of uncoated & CVD diamond coated WC-Co cemented carbide cutting tools used for machining of Al 7xxx alloys.

    University essay from Karlstads universitet/Fakulteten för hälsa, natur- och teknikvetenskap (from 2013)

    Author : Christian Hultman; [2022]
    Keywords : tribology; machining; metal cutting; turning; milling; friction; wear; material transfer; surface technology; tribologi; skärande bearbetning; svarvning; fräsning; friktion; förslitning; nötning; materialöverföring; ytteknologi;

    Abstract : High strength aluminum alloys have for a long time been a popular material utilized in the automotive and aerospace sector due to coveted mechanical properties in terms of weight, strength, fatigue, and corrosion. However, tribological mechanisms such as tribo-film formation and material transfer during the metal cutting manufacturing process of aluminum impose significant reduction of machining and tool-life performance. 2. 2. Performance and Wear Behaviour of Coated and Uncoated Cemented Carbide Tools during Milling of Titanium Alloys

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Industriell Produktion

    Author : Juan Manuel Bello Bermejo; [2022]
    Keywords : Titanium alloys; milling; wear mechanisms; wear behaviour; cutting tool performance.; Technology and Engineering;

    Abstract : Purpose – The purpose of this project is to study the performance of uncoated versus coated cemented carbide tools when performing milling operations in heat treated titanium alloys, with the goal of establishing a base line of knowledge and methodology linked to these difficult-to-machine materials relevant for the metal cutting industry. Design/methodology/approach – The work that is carried out in this project comprise both literature review, that is presented as the state of the art as the necessary theoretical background to understand what is done; and experiments, that were designed and executed at Seco Tools in Fagersta in order to achieve the primary goal, testing and comparing different scenarios where cutting parameters played a key role. 3. 3. Tribological behaviour of CVD diamondcoated tools during machining of highstrength aluminum alloy : Master thesis project on tribological behavior of super hard materials: chemicalvapor deposition diamond (CVD) coated cutting tools and polycrystalline diamond(PCD) cutting tools used in machining of high strength aluminium alloy

    University essay from Karlstads universitet/Institutionen för ingenjörsvetenskap och fysik (from 2013)

    Author : Oskar Lundquist; [2022]
    Keywords : CVD diamond coating; CVD; Aluminum machining; Tool coatings; PCD; diamond coating; diamond; Tribology; Material Science.;

    Abstract : Machining of Aluminum can be complicated due to large amounts of adhesion and diffusion of the aluminum onto the cutting tool, causing effects such as built-up layers and built-up edges. This leads to poor surface finishes and can significantly affect the tool life. READ MORE

  4. 4. Method to assess machinability of engineering steels using coated carbide tools

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Tillämpad materialvetenskap

    Author : Petra Hedberg; [2021]
    Keywords : Machinability; tool wear; coated carbide; non-metallic inclusions; Ca-treated; steel; 42CrMo4;

    Abstract : In this master thesis, performed at Ovako Group R&D (Hofors) a new machining test method for ranking heats of calcium-treated steels, M-Steels, has been proposed.  A total of six different heats of 42CrMo4-M steel in the quenched-and-tempered (Q+T) condition were tested. READ MORE

  5. 5. Analysis of a machining process for glass fiber composites

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Industriell Produktion

    Author : Aron Bjarnason; [2020]
    Keywords : Milling; Composites; FRP; PCD; Coated cemented carbide; Machine productivity; Technology and Engineering;

    Abstract : The aim for this study is to observe and conduct experiments on a composite productions machining process in order to gather knowledge and data on the process. The information will be used to make recommendations for improving the process in terms of production capacity and product quality. READ MORE
