    Abstract : Using tools and ideas from narratology, reader-response theory and cognitive poetics, and focusing on the representation of perception, this essay studies identity in four short stories by Elizabeth Bowen: "The Demon Lover", "The Inherited Clock", "Dead Mabelle" and "Foothold".
