  1. 1. Fracture simulation with a hyperelastic phase field model

    University essay from KTH/Hållfasthetslära

    Author : Adrien Fradet; [2023]
    Keywords : Fracture; Phase field modeling; Hyperelasticity; Brott; fasfält-methoden; hyperelasticite;

    Abstract : The phase field method is a versatile tool to study crack initiation and propagation in systems with complex geometries. Based on a variational formulation of the equilibrium equations, the sharp crack topology is regularized by a crack with diffusive edges and the damage is described by a continuous phase field variable. 2. 2. Life extension of welded steel details in bridges

    University essay from KTH/Lättkonstruktioner, marina system, flyg- och rymdteknik, rörelsemekanik

    Author : Zhelei Jin; [2023]
    Keywords : Welded joints; Fatigue; Pre-fatigue; Life extension; Fracture mechanics; Finite element analysis; HFMI; ; Svetsade fogar; utmattning; förutmattning; livsförlängning; frakturmekanik; finit elementanalys; HFMI; ;

    Abstract : High-Frequency Mechanical Impacts (HFMI) is a surface treatment technique utilized to introduce residual stresses and extend the service life of structures. This project primarily focuses on studying the life extension effects of HFMI on welded structures that have undergone fatigue and have existing cracks. READ MORE

  3. 3. Effect of dwell (hold) time on high temperature fatigue crack growth of AM components

    University essay from KTH/Lättkonstruktioner, marina system, flyg- och rymdteknik, rörelsemekanik

    Author : Hemanth Venkatesan; [2023]
    Keywords : Dwell time; creep; fatigue; IN718; LPBF; hold time; sustained loading; Uppehållstid; krypning; utmattning; IN718; LPBF; hålltid; ihållande belastning;

    Abstract : GKN Aerospace AB, Sweden (GAS) is one of the leading companies taking up the charge in manufacturing components using Additive Manufacturing(ed) (AM) techniques in the aerospace sector. They are a hub of engineering and they are a supplier of engine and engine components to the world’s leading aero-engine manufacturers, and airframes to civil and military aircraft manufacturers. 4. 4. Micro-CT based finite element models for mechanical strength assessment of glass ceramic scaffolds obtained through the robocasting technique

    University essay from KTH/Hållfasthetslära

    Author : Gustav Thessén; [2022]
    Keywords : µ-CT modelling; phase-field method; bio-glass scaffolds; strength assessment; Mikrotomografi; μ-CT; fasfältsmetoden; bio-glas stödstrukturer; brottgräns;

    Abstract : In this thesis, micro computed tomography (μ−CT) scans of a bio-glass scaffold produced by the robocasting technique was used to create finite element method (FEM) models with the purpose of determining its mechanical strength. Prior to this, a Matlab script was used to create several simplified geometries of the scaffold in an effort to determine the importance of scaffold design parameters (such as the fiber compenetration between two adjacent printing planes) on the strength of the scaffold. 5. 5. Crack propagation in 3D-printed PLA

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Tillämpad materialvetenskap

    Author : Johan Stenborg; Amaro Ramirez Flores; [2022]
    Keywords : Crack; 3D printing; crack propagation; FEM; fracture; crack simulation; image correlation; Sprickor; Sprickbildning; 3D printing; spricksimulering; DIC-analys;

    Abstract : Cracks form in all materials. This project was about investigating the crackpropagation in 3D-printed PLA. Both simulations and experiments has beenperformed to get the results. The simulations used a already written code to solvethe problem with FEM. READ MORE
