    University essay from Lunds universitet/Kemiteknik (CI)

    Author : Koustubh Karande; [2022]
    Keywords : Wastewater treatment; Dissolved organic matter; Pharmaceuticals; Activated carbon; Hydrophobicity; Molecular weight; Water resources engineering; Technology and Engineering;

    Abstract : Micropollutants in our sources of freshwater is an issue which requires immediate attention. The presence of pharmaceuticals, endocrine disrupting agents, pesticides and other harmful compounds have proven to have impact on the aquatic as well as on human life. READ MORE

  2. 2. Estimation of dissolved organic carbon from inland waters using remote sensing data and machine learning

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Author : Lasse Harkort; [2022]
    Keywords : dissolved organic carbon; machine learning; remote sensing; inland waters; water quality; open source data; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Abstract : This thesis presents the first attempt to estimate Dissolved Organic Carbon (DOC) in inland waters over a large-scale area using satellite data and machine learning (ML) methods. Four ML approaches, namely Random Forest Regression (RFR), Support Vector Regression (SVR), Gaussian Process Regression (GPR), and a Multilayer Backpropagation Neural Network (MBPNN) were tested to retrieve DOC using a filtered version of the recently published open source AquaSat dataset with more than 16 thousand samples across the continental US matched with satellite data from Landsat 5, 7 and 8 missions.     Keywords : PFAS; DOC; UV254; activated carbon; adsorption; PFAS; DOC; UV254; aktivt kol; adsorption;

    Abstract : Tillgång till rent dricksvatten är en mänsklig rättighet och en viktig del av ett hållbart samhälle. Därför är det viktigt att säkerställa tillgången till samt kvaliteten av dricksvattnet som produceras i Sveriges vattenverk och i vattenverk världen över. READ MORE

  4. 4. Water quality and organic matter linkages in waters draining arable fields

    University essay from SLU/Dept. of Soil and Environment

    Author : Adam Eriksson; [2021]
    Keywords : Natural organic matter NOM ; particular organic matter POM ; dissolved organic matter DOM ; allochthonous; autochthonous; Florescence index FIX ; Freshness index BIX ; Humification index HIX ; SUVA 254; E2:E3; Spectral Slope; Observation fields; microbial matter; humic matter; unfiltered samples UF ; filtered samples F45 ;

    Abstract : This study investigated leaching of natural organic matter (NOM) in twelve Swedish arable fields with regards to the quality of dissolved organic matter (DOM) and particulate organic matter (POM), using Absorbance (UV-Vis) and fluorescence spectrometry (EEM). DOM is defined as organic matter (OM) 0.45 μm. READ MORE

  5. 5. Comparison of Different Wood Types for Use as a Porous Substrate in Denitrifying Woodchip Bioreactors

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaper

    Author : Erica Erikson; [2021]
    Keywords : denitrification; woodchip bioreactor; column experiments; denitrifikation; träflis-bioreaktor; kolonnexperiment;

    Abstract : Explosives used in the mining industry release nitrate into the environment, causing concerns for the water quality in local river-systems. One way of reducing the nitrate loading into the environment is through a woodchip bioreactor. READ MORE
