  1. 1. ADAPTED FISH FRIENDLY OPERATION OF SMALL-SCALE HYDROPOWER PLANTS : AN ECONOMIC ANALYSIS

    University essay from KTH/Hållbar utveckling, miljövetenskap och teknik

    Author : Ana Gil Merino; [2022]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The hydropower sector generates almost half of the electricity produced in Sweden annually. Although hydropower is a renewable energy that produces no emissions, there is an impact on the local scale of Swedish aquatic ecosystem causing the decline of some fish species due to its impact on rivers connectivity. 2. 2. Programming a TEM for magnetic measurements : DMscript code for acquiring EMCD data in a single scan with a q-E STEM setup

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Tillämpad materialvetenskap

    Author : Linus Schönström; [2016]
    Keywords : EMCD; magnetic dichroism; q-E STEM; DMscript; DigitalMicrograph scripting; custom STEM acquisition; SI hookup system; Spectrum Imaging hookups;

    Abstract : Code written in the DigitalMicrograph® scripting language enables a new experimental design for acquiring the magnetic dichroism in EELS. Called the q-E STEM setup, it provides simultaneous acquisition of the dichroic pairs of spectra (eliminating major error sources) while preserving the real-space resolution of STEM. READ MORE

  3. 3. Natural migration barriers for fish by hydropower plants : methods to assess historic passability. Case studies of migration barriers

    University essay from SLU/Dept. Of Aquatic Resources

    Author : Johansson Anders; [2016]
    Keywords : natural migration barriers; historic passablility; reference connectivity; connectivity; fish; brown trout; eel; hydropower;

    Abstract : Is it necessary to build fishways at all artificial migration barriers to restore and sustain bio-diversity? Hydropower plants have often been built at places where a difference in height has been used to gain more power, leading to the hypothesis that many hydropower dams have been built at natural migration barriers. How are Swedish running waters (not large rivers) assessed with respect to historical passability for fish at natural migration barriers and dams? How does one study a specific location with respect to the historical passability for different fish species? The methodologies that are evaluated in this thesis are relevant and specific information from a habitat mapping from Värmland County, where 2 903 km waterways already have been surveyed. READ MORE

  4. 4. Shape functions in calculations of differential scattering cross-sections

    University essay from Institutionen för fysik och astronomi

    Author : Anders Johansson; [2010]
    Keywords : Differential cross-sections; DDSCS; EELS; ELNES; EMCD; Dynamical diffraction theory; thickness function; shape function; shape amplitude;

    Abstract : Two new methods for calculating the double differential scattering cross-section (DDSCS) in electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS) have been developed, allowing for simulations of sample geometries which have been unavailable to earlier methods of calculation. The new methods concerns the calculations of the thickness function of the DDSCS. READ MORE

  5. 5. Quantitative Analysis of TiWCN in Cemented Carbide : A Comparison of Spectroscopic Techniques

    University essay from Institutionen för materialkemi

    Author : Petra Olander; [2010]
    Keywords : quantitative; analysis; EELS; EDS; WDS; cemented carbide; spectroscopy; TEM;

    Abstract : The aim of this master thesis was to compare EELS in TEM with TEM-EDS and WDS-EPMA for quantitative analysis of γ-phase in cemented carbide. Especially, the quantification of the light elements nitrogen and carbon in compounds like TiCxN1-x is interesting, since this is problematic. READ MORE
