  1. 21. Evaluating forest wildfire effect on tree increment patterns for boreonemoral forests in Sweden: A pilot study using remote sensing

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Author : Joanna Eaton; [2022]
    Keywords : Physical Geography and Ecosystem analysis; Remote sensing; Sentinel-2A; Forest wildfires; dNBR; NDVI; dNDVI; Dendrochronology; Atmospheric science and biogeochemical cycles; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Abstract : The release of anthropogenic greenhouse gases (GHGs) has substantially increased the global mean surface air temperature. Increases in global mean surface air temperature will lead to warmer and drier conditions, promoting more frequent, long-lasting, intense forest wildfires. READ MORE

  2. 22. Visibility in Smoke With Different Extinction Coefficients

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Avdelningen för Brandteknik

    Author : Lea Elhokayem; [2022]
    Keywords : Visibility; smoke; exit sign; extinction coefficient; visibility constant; evacuation; Technology and Engineering;

    Abstract : Visibility in smoke has since the 1970s gained some attention, mostly after Tadahisa Jin ran the experiments which helped him develop todays widely used visibility equation. By showing that visibility can be assumed to be inversely proportional to the extinction coefficient by a visibility constant (equal to 8 for light emitting sign and 3 for light reflecting), Jin opened up new doors for researchers who were testing out his theory by going around experimenting in different ways and also by showing that there is way for more research to be done. 3. 23. Simulating cable fires in Fire Dynamics Simulator : Based on small scale testing in cone calorimeter

    University essay from Luleå tekniska universitet/Byggkonstruktion och brand

    Author : Hugo Zacharoff; [2021]
    Keywords : Cable fires; FDS; cone calorimeter;

    Abstract : In a society increasingly more influenced by technology and electricity, electrical and computer cables will play a more vital role in humans’ everyday life. With an increasing number of cables being introduced into society, the risk of fires caused by or involving cables will increase and become a more common danger to property and human lives.     Keywords : Fire safety; heritage on fire; fire safety in heritage; historic buildings; heritage buildings.; Technology and Engineering;

    Abstract : This study aims to investigate, understand and explore issues related to the appropriateness of the existing fire protection solutions in historical buildings and their effectiveness in avoiding catastrophes. Therefore, recent papers, case studies, statutory documents, and guidelines are reviewed. READ MORE

  5. 25. Strength of axially loaded screw joints in wooden structures exposed to fire : An overview of existing knowledge and proposal for test method

    University essay from Luleå tekniska universitet/Institutionen för samhällsbyggnad och naturresurser

    Author : Emma Wiklund; [2021]
    Keywords : Fire; Wood; Screws; Strength; test method;

    Abstract : Today, distinct approaches are required when designing timber structures and their joints in the event of fire. Considering that the steel fasteners have temperature dependent properties and that the surrounding wooden construction is also affected by the fire due to occurrence of charring during fire exposure, these types of joints are complicated to design.
