  1. 1. Leveraging green hydrogen to decarbonise the aviation industry : A case study on electrofuels in Sweden

    University essay from KTH/Skolan för industriell teknik och management (ITM)

    Author : Jakob Bergene; Jonathan Bruchhausen; [2023]
    Keywords : Electrofuel; e-fuel; electrokerosene; e-kerosene; SAF; sustainable aviation fuel; sustainable aviation; complementarity formation mechanisms; technology value chains; TVC; Techno-economic analysis; TEA; Elektrobränsle; e-bränsle; elektrofotogen; e-fotogen; SAF; sustainable aviation fuel; sustainable aviation; komplementära formationsmekanismer; technology value chains; TVC; Techno-economic analysis; TEA;

    Abstract : For the EU to reach its 2050 climate targets the aviation industry that is highly dependent on fossil fuels needs to drastically reduce its emissions. In the decarbonisation of the aviation industry drop-in sustainable aviation fuels (SAFs) have been identified as a promising solution to abate the industry’s emissions. READ MORE

  2. 2. Evaluation of the new Power & Biomass to Liquid (PBtL) concept for production of biofuels from woody biomass

    University essay from KTH/Kemiteknik

    Author : Robert Dahl; [2021]
    Keywords : PBtL; Fischer-Tropsch Synthesis; Biofuels; ASF product distribution; Aspen Plus; PBtL; Fischer-Tropsch syntes; Biobränslen; ASF produktfördelning; Aspen Plus;

    Abstract : I den här rapporten utvärderas det nya konceptet Power & Biomass to Liquid (PBtL). PBtL är ett alternativ till den tidigare och mer etablerade Biomass to Liquid (BtL) processen. Med PBtL förbättras utbytet av kol jämfört med BtL genom att elektricitet läggs till i processen. READ MORE

  3. 3. Modelling the Production of Biofuels via Olefins Oligomerisation

    University essay from KTH/Skolan för kemi, bioteknologi och hälsa (CBH)

    Author : Nima Mirzaei; [2020]
    Keywords : Biofuels; Mathematical Modelling; Process Simulation; Oligomerisation; Fischer-Tropsch; Biobränslen; Matematisk Modellering; Process Simulering; Oligomerisering; Fischer-Tropsch;

    Abstract : The technical feasibility of gasoline and diesel range hydrocarbons production through oligomerisation of olefins, starting from biomass with the intermediary steps of gasfication, water-gas shift reaction and syngas-to-olefins synthesis was investigated, through mathematical modelling and simulation on Matlab. The model for the gasifier was based on minimisation of Gibbs free energy and its results showed that higher carbon efficiencies could be achieved at lower pressures and steam inlet, and more inlet energy, by pre-heating the gasifying agents. 4. 4. Fields of Dreams: Scenarios to Produce Selected Biomass and Renewable Jet Fuels that Fulfill European Union Sustainability Criteria

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaper

    Author : Torry van Slyke; [2019]
    Keywords : aviation biofuel; Camelina sativa; forestry residues; land use change; Renewable Energy Directive; sustainable development;

    Abstract : Aviation greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions have risen faster than any other transport sector to double between 1990 and 2005. Such emissions from aviation could increase another 700 percent globally, and at least 150 percent in the European Union (EU), by 2050 due to continuously increasing consumer demand. READ MORE

  5. 5. Development of a modern catalytic system for the production of C3+ aliphatic alcohols by the Fischer-Tropsch method

    University essay from KTH/Energiteknik

    Author : Aravind Ganesan; [2019]
    Keywords : syngas; Cobalt; Fischer-Tropsch; alcohols; hydrocarbons; syngas; kobolt; Fischer-Tropsch; alkoholer; kolväten;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with converting a mixture of H2 and CO, also referred to as syngas or producer gas, to higher or mixed alcohols and other fuels through a process called Fischer Tropsch Synthesis (FTS). It is a beneficial pathway that minimizes the dependence on oil and similar fossil fuels which contribute to rapid climate change by releasing harmful greenhouse gases. READ MORE
