  1. 1. Ocean rogue wave analysis for the development of safer navigation systems. : A Thesis submitted to the University of Gävle for the degree of Bachelor of Mathematics

    University essay from Högskolan i Gävle/Matematik

    Author : Sergio Manzetti; [2023]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Rogue waves are unexpectedly high waves of 2.5X the significant wave height and which occur in nearly all phases of nature, from  oceans, to fiber-optic cables and atmospheric air-masses. In the ocean, rogue waves pose a significant danger to shipping and fishing vessels and have been found to reach 27. READ MORE

  2. 2. Room Impulse Response Interpolation

    University essay from KTH/Skolan för elektroteknik och datavetenskap (EECS)

    Author : Daníel Thor Wilcox; [2023]
    Keywords : Virtual Acoustics; Machine Learning; Signal Processing; Room Impulse Response; Virtuell Akustik; Maskininlärning; Signalbehandling; rumsimpulssvar;

    Abstract : In Virtual Reality (VR) systems, the incorporation of acoustics allows for the generation of audio-visual stimuli, facilitating applications in engineering, architecture, and design. The goal of virtual acoustics is to create a realistic sound field in continuous space. READ MORE

  3. 3. Gibbs Phenomenon for Fourier-Legendre Series

    University essay from Karlstads universitet/Institutionen för matematik och datavetenskap (from 2013)

    Author : Joakim Andersson Svendsen; [2023]
    Keywords : Fourier series; Fourier-Legendre series; Gibbs phenomenon;

    Abstract : In this thesis, the main objective is to study the presence of Gibbs phenomenon and the Gibbs constant in Fourier-Legendre series. The occurrence of The Gibbs phenomenon is a well known consequence when approximating functions with Fourier series that have points of discontinuity. READ MORE

  4. 4. Ultra Low Frequency Electromagnetic Waves at the Saturn Bow Shock

    University essay from KTH/Skolan för elektroteknik och datavetenskap (EECS)

    Author : Axel Lindberg; Johan Höglund; [2023]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : This project aims to research the characteristics and prevalence of ultra low frequency(ULF) waves at the Saturn bow shock with the help of data collected by the space probe CASSINIwhich was in orbit around the planet from 2004 and 2017. ULF waves have been extensively studiedat Earth but not at Saturn, and by studying this phenomenon at Saturn we may gain a deeperunderstanding of it. READ MORE

  5. 5. Automatic classification of cardiovascular age of healthy people by dynamical patterns of the heart rhythm

    University essay from Linköpings universitet/Statistik och maskininlärning

    Author : priya kurian pullolickal; [2022]
    Keywords : Electrocardiogram ECG measures the electrical impulses of the heart. The time inter- val between two successive R peaks measured in millisecond using an ECG is called as an RR-interval. The distribution of the RR-intervals as well as classification of cardiovascu- lar age of healthy people from RR-interval was done in this thesis. For that; the data was preprocessed and time series plots were analyzed from sample dataset. The RR-intervals were then aligned to have the same start time using functions written and then an aver- age RR-interval series for each decade was created. The coefficient of variation was very less for this averaged dataset which concluded that averaging the RR-interval was a good approach. The averaged dataset per age decade as well agreed to the conclusion of the sample data set that the heart rate variability decreases with increasing age. Three clusters of age decade were also visible in the averaged dataset. The kurtosis; skew; mean; me- dian; histograms and Q-Q Plot were calculated for the sample as well as averaged dataset to find the distribution. The values all concluded that the RR-intervals follow Gaussian distribution or mixture of Gaussian distribution. The Poincaré plots showed that the dis- tribution of RR-interval is comet shaped for healthy individuals. The features were ex- tracted from the distribution as well as from the distribution of Discrete Fourier Transform DFT for classifying the age group from RR-intervals. Svitzky-Golay filtering was done to smooth the signal before taking the features from DFT. Random Forest and Support Vector Machine was the machine learning algorithms used to classify the age decade. Later the results were compared using a dataset from physionet that had RR-intervals of individuals suffering from myocardial infraction. The age classification using Random Forest and Sup- port Vector Machine concluded that the Gdańsk dataset using Random Forest Algorithm and three classes gave the highest test accuracy of 59% for the dataset.;
