  1. 1. Evaluation of a Novel Reconstruction Framework for Gamma Knife Cone-Beam CT - The Impact of Scatter Correction and Noise Filtering on Image Quality and Co-registration Accuracy

    University essay from KTH/Fysik

    Author : Ida Hägnestrand; [2023]
    Keywords : Gamma Knife; Cone-beam computed tomography; Image quality; Image reconstruction; Co-registration; Contrast; Uniformity; Spatial resolution; Scatter correction; Wiener filter; Noise filter; Patient positioning; Stereotactic radiosurgery; Gammakniv; Strålkniv; Cone-Beam Computed Tomography; Bildkvalitet; Bildrekonstruktion; Co-registrering; Kontrast; Uniformitet; Spatial upplösning; Spridningskorrigering; Wienerfilter; Brusfilter; Stereotaktisk strålkirurgi;

    Abstract : The Gamma Knife is a non-invasive stereotactic radiosurgery system used for treatments of deep targets in the brain. Accurate patient positioning is needed for precise radiation delivery to the target. READ MORE

  2. 2. Deep reinforcement learning for isocenter placement in Gamma Knife® radiosurgery

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för informationsteknologi

    Author : Dmitrijs Kass; [2022]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Disposition of isocenters inside the brain tumor is of paramount importance for the quality of the Leksell Gamma Knife® radiosurgery. This work presents a novel approach based on deep reinforcement learning aimed at optimizing isocenter locations. READ MORE

  3. 3. Optimization of the Gamma Knife Treatment Room Design

    University essay from KTH/Fysik

    Author : Nelly Nygren; [2021]
    Keywords : Gamma Knife; Treatment Room; Radiation Shielding; Dose Calculation; Computation; Monte Carlo; Simulation; Phase Space; Optimization; Gamma Knife; Behandlingsrum; Strålskydd; Stråldosberäkning; Beräkning; Monte Carlo; Simulering; Fasrum; Optimering;

    Abstract : Radiation shielding is a central part of the design of treatment rooms for radiation therapy systems. The dose levels that medical staff and members of the public can be exposed to outside the treatment rooms are regulated by authorities and influence the required wall thicknesses and possible locations for the systems. 4. 4. Automatic Generation of Patient-specific Gamma Knife Treatment Plans for Vestibular Schwannoma Patients

    University essay from KTH/Skolan för elektroteknik och datavetenskap (EECS)

    Author : Simon Löw; [2020]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : In this thesis a new fully automatic process for radiotherapy treatment planning with the Leksell Gamma Knife is implemented and evaluated: First, a machine learning algorithm is trained to predict the desired dose distribution, then a convex optimization problem is solved to find the optimal Gamma Knife configuration using the prediction as the optimization objective. The method is evaluated using Bayesian linear regression, Gaussian processes and convolutional neural networks for the prediction. READ MORE

  5. 5. Designing a fast and robust device for measuring and providing graphical visualization of the number of 60Co sources in a Leksell Gamma Knife®

    University essay from KTH/Skolan för kemi, bioteknologi och hälsa (CBH)

    Author : Simon Andersson; [2020]
    Keywords : Cobalt 60; LGK; Leksell Gamma Knife; Counting sources; Elekta Instrument AB;

    Abstract : The Leksell Gamma Knife® (LGK) is a device for performing radiosurgery. The LGK contains approximately 200 radioactive sources whose beams intersect in a focal point in order to treat brain tumours. Quality assurance tools are used at Elekta to indirectly assess the number of sources in an LGK from the total amount of radiation. READ MORE
