  1. 1. Evaluation of whole-body bone scans performed using a gamma camera with Cadmium Zinc Telluride detector

    University essay from

    Author : Victor Asp; [2022-01-13]
    Keywords : Medical physics; whole-body bone scans; gamma camera; Cadmium Zinc Telluride detector;

    Abstract : The bone scan is a common nuclear medicine imaging procedure that is mainly used for evaluating several oncological patient groups. A radioactive tracer, 99mTc -labelled diphosphonate, is injected intravenously and accumulates in the skeleton. The distribution of the tracer in the body is measured with a gamma camera 3 hours post-injection. READ MORE

  2. 2. Development of a computational method for determining gamma energy escape from calorimeters at CLAB

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Tillämpad kärnfysik

    Author : Amela Mehic; [2022]
    Keywords : Nuclear physics; Calorimeter; SNF; MCNP; Dose rate; CLAB; Gamma energy; Fuel assembly; Form function; Attenuation coefficient; Gamma spectroscopy;

    Abstract : Swedish Nuclear Fuel and Waste Management Company- SKB has conducted measurement campaigns at the Swedish central interim storage facility for spent nuclear fuel- CLAB over the years, extending from year 2003 to 2019 where the gamma energy escape was acquired. At CLAB the spent nuclear fuel assembly is inserted into the calorimeter; device intended to measure temperature increase due to decay heat from the fuel assembly. READ MORE

  3. 3. Thermal neutron counting and gamma-ray peak identification from fusion reactions, using a Sodern Genie-16 Neutron Generator

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Kärnfysik; Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen

    Author : Auden Ti; [2022]
    Keywords : Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : This thesis work focuses on the categorisation of a Sodern Genie-16 Neutron Generator, at the Nuclear Applications Laboratory, Lund University. To that end, the goals of this work focuses on the re-development of the pre-existing infrastructure surrounding the Sodern Genie-16 Neutron Generator for the purposes of internally irradiating samples, and the subsequent categorisation of the new configuration for extraction of fast neutrons. 4. 4. Measuring the vertical muon intensity with the ALTO prototype at Linnaeus University

    University essay from Linnéuniversitetet/Institutionen för fysik och elektroteknik (IFE)

    Author : Magnus Norén; [2021]
    Keywords : Muon Intensity; ALTO; CoMET; Cosmic Rays; VHE Gamma Rays; Extensive Air Shower; Water Cherenkov Detector; Scintillation Detector; Monte Carlo Simulation; GEANT4;

    Abstract : ALTO is a project, currently in the research and development phase, with the goal of constructing a Very High Energy (VHE) gamma-ray observatory in the southern hemisphere. It will detect the particle content reaching the ground from the interactions of either VHE gamma rays or cosmic rays in the atmosphere known as extensive air showers. READ MORE

  5. 5. Constraints on the High-Energy Gamma-Ray Spectrum of Nearby Star-Forming Galaxies

    University essay from Stockholms universitet/Fysikum

    Author : Oskar Svenborn; [2021]
    Keywords : Gamma-ray emission; High-Energy astrophysics; Star-Forming Galaxies; Star formation; Cosmic rays; Fermi-LAT.;

    Abstract : The nature of high-energy gamma-ray emission from Star-Forming Galaxies is of utmost importance for understanding both the origin of Cosmic Rays and the high-energy processes that shape galaxy formation. Observations from the gamma-ray telescope Fermi-LAT have detected gamma-ray emission from a handful of nearby Star-Forming Galaxies. READ MORE
