  1. 1. 2D Reflection Seismic Imaging of Rødby Structures, Denmark: Geological Conditions for CO2 Sequestration

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Geofysik

    Author : Mussie Habtemariam Zeru; [2024]
    Keywords : Reflection seismic; Geologic carbon storage; Sandstone; Structures; Rødby;

    Abstract : Amidst the global climate action movement, geologic carbon storage (GCS) has emerged as a pivotal strategy for mitigating atmospheric CO2 levels, offering environmental and economic opportunities. This thesis targets the Bunter Sandstone Formation within the Rødby structures in Denmark, focusing on seismic Profile 1. 2. 2. Projective Geometry in Kinematics

    University essay from Umeå universitet/Institutionen för matematik och matematisk statistik

    Author : Emil Eriksson; [2024]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : In this thesis, we study projective geometry and show a connection to kinematics. We show how the group of rigid body motions in three-dimensional space can be parameterized on a hyperbolic quadric in a seven-dimensional projective space. We also show that this quadric is a geometry with triality, and we discuss triality from a kinematic viewpoint. READ MORE

  3. 3. Misalignment effects on the physics performance of the inner tracker upgrade at the ALICE experiment

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen; Lunds universitet/Partikel- och kärnfysik

    Author : Jesper Karlsson Gumprecht; [2024]
    Keywords : ALICE; ITS; ITS2; ITS3; O2; O2Physics; Distortion; Misalignment; Alignment; Realignment; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with the physics performance of an approved inner tracker upgrade of the ALICE experiment involving a novel and ultra-thin silicon detector with a cylindrical geometry. During the thesis work, a method was developed in simulations to induce distortions to the detector’s geometry, and the resulting loss in physics performance was evaluated. READ MORE

  4. 4. Gravitational Collapse of a Massless Scalar Field in a Theory of Minimally Modified Gravity

    University essay from KTH/Fysik

    Author : Atabak Fathe Jalali; [2024]
    Keywords : Theoretical physics; astrophysics; modified gravity; minimally modified gravity; gravitational collapse; VCDM; scalar collapse; apparent horizon; numerical relativity; Teoretisk fysik; astrofysik; modifierad gravitation; minimalt modifierad gravitation; gravitationskollaps; VCDM; skalär kollaps; uppenbar horisont; numerisk relativitet;

    Abstract : This thesis explores the spherically symmetric gravitational collapse of a massless scalar field in a minimally modified gravity theory denoted VCDM (V replaces $\Lambda$ in the $\Lambda$CDM abbreviation), a class of theories propagating the same degrees of freedom as general relativity at the expense of broken 4D diffeomorphism invariance. Numerical evolution of the equations of motion reveals that for small initial scalar profile amplitudes, no black hole forms from the collapse. READ MORE

  5. 5. Geometry of high dimensional Gaussian data

    University essay from Linköpings universitet/Tillämpad matematik; Linköpings universitet/Tekniska fakulteten

    Author : Olof Samuel Mossberg; [2024]
    Keywords : HDLSS; high dimensional data; stochastic boundedness; asymptotic orthogonality; geometry; multivariate normal distribution; HDLSS; högdimensionell data; stokastisk begränsning; asymptotisk ortogonalitet; geometri; multivariat normalfördelning;

    Abstract : Collected data may simultaneously be of low sample size and high dimension. Such data exhibit some geometric regularities consisting of a single observation being a rotation on a sphere, and a pair of observations being orthogonal. This thesis investigates these geometric properties in some detail. READ MORE
