  1. 1. Transverse Momentum Spectra in pp collisions (\sqrt{s}\) = 7 TeV and \(\sqrt{s}\) = 13 TeV in ALICE

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen; Lunds universitet/Partikel- och kärnfysik

    Author : Andreas Stokkeland; [2023]
    Keywords : Multiplicity; Multiplicity classes; Soft interactions; Quark Gluon Plasma; QGP; transverse momentum; p_T; Chi-squared; fits; fit functions; Levy; Lévy; Exponential; BGBW; Boltzmann-Gibbs blast-wave; Fermi-Dirac; Bose-Einstein; Boltzmann; pion; kaon; proton; transverse momentum spectra; p_T spectra; surface velocity; Minimum Bias; MB; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : In this project particle production as a function of transverse momentum (\(p_{\rm T}\)) in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy (\(\sqrt{s}\)) of 7 TeV and 13 TeV has been studied. The transverse momentum is interesting to study since it reflects momentum created in the collision (before the collision, all momentum is in the beam - going in a longitudinal direction) and therefore gives information on the collision dynamics. 2. 2. Gibbs Phenomenon for Fourier-Legendre Series

    University essay from Karlstads universitet/Institutionen för matematik och datavetenskap (from 2013)

    Author : Joakim Andersson Svendsen; [2023]
    Keywords : Fourier series; Fourier-Legendre series; Gibbs phenomenon;

    Abstract : In this thesis, the main objective is to study the presence of Gibbs phenomenon and the Gibbs constant in Fourier-Legendre series. The occurrence of The Gibbs phenomenon is a well known consequence when approximating functions with Fourier series that have points of discontinuity. READ MORE

  3. 3. Production and analysis of novel disulfide variants of Subtilisin Carlsberg

    University essay from Linköpings universitet/Kemi

    Author : Anton Elfstrand; [2023]
    Keywords : Subtilisin Carlsberg; Disulfide; Protein Engineering; Kinetic Stability;

    Abstract : Protein engineering has been used to alter the stability of proteins for several decades withmuch success, one approach being to introduce two cysteine residues that together form adisulfide bridge. The disulfide bridge can increase the Gibbs free energy of the transitionstate, thus increasing energy difference between the folded state and the unfolding transitionstate, leading to increased kinetic stability of the protein. 4. 4. Predicting Protein Stability with Machine Learning

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Biofysikalisk kemi

    Author : Lucas Carlsson; [2023]
    Keywords : Protein Stability; Biophysical Chemistry; Thermodynamics; Machine Learning; Deep Learning; Protein Language Model; Biochemistry; Multiple Sequence Alignment; Bioinformatics; Biology and Life Sciences;

    Abstract : Protein stability is a property of high importance and is of interest in a variety of fields. It determines if a protein has its native fold and can be of influence in certain diseases such as Parkinson's and Alzheimer's disease. READ MORE

  5. 5. Reconstruction of Fire Spread with a Markov Random Field Mixture Model

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Matematisk statistik

    Author : Marcus Gehrmann; [2023]
    Keywords : Forest fire; fire scars; spatial statistics; Markov random field; EM-algorithm; pseudo-likelihood; Mathematics and Statistics;

    Abstract : This thesis revolves around reconstructing fire sizes for historical fires in Jämtgaveln, Sweden based on data of fire scars in trees. We propose a Hidden Markov Model (HMM), where the domain is divided into quadratic grid cells of 250 $\times$ 250 m and with these grid cells we associate a binary Markov random field taking values 0 or 1 corresponding to no fire and fire respectively.
