  1. 6. The differences between SSD and HDD technology regarding forensic investigations

    University essay from Linnéuniversitetet/Institutionen för datavetenskap (DV)

    Author : Florian Geier; [2015]
    Keywords : SSD; HHD; Data Recovery; Forensics; Flash Memory; Solid State Disk; Hard Disk Drive; TRIM; Garbage collection; Wear leveling; NAND; SandForce;

    Abstract : In the past years solid state disks have developed drastically and are now gaining increased popularity compared to conventional hard drives. While hard disk drives work predictable, transparent SSD routines work in the background without the user’s knowledge. READ MORE

  3. 8. Using Network Attached Storage for IP-Surveillance : Bottleneck analysis and developing a method for testing Network Attached Storage performance for IP-surveillance

    University essay from Sektionen för Informationsvetenskap, Data– och Elektroteknik (IDE)

    Author : Joakim Nymberg; [2013]
    Keywords : NAS; IP-Surveillance; Network Attached Storage; Surveillance; CCTV;

    Abstract : IP-surveillance systems are surveillance systems designed to send video and audio over IP-networks, to be able to function a typical system consist of IP-cameras to record footage, a client to view footage and recordings, network hardware to send the data, protocols to administer storage and viewing operations and last but not least a location to store the captured data. One of the options for storing surveillance video is to use a Network Attached Storage. READ MORE

  4. 9. Performance differences in encryption software versus storage devices

    University essay from Institutionen för datavetenskap, fysik och matematik, DFM

    Author : Robin Olsson; [2012]
    Keywords : Encryption; Symmetric Encryption; AES; Twofish; Serpent; TrueCrypt; BestCrypt; DiskCryptor; SSD; Mechanical hard drive; Performance; Benchmarks;

    Abstract : This thesis looked at three encryption applications that all use the symmetric encryption algorithms AES, Twofish and Serpent but differ in their implementation and how this difference would illustrate itself in performance benchmarks depending on the type of storage device that they were used on. Three mechanical hard drives and one solid state drive were used in the performance benchmarks which measured a variety of different disk operations across the three encryption applications and their algorithms. 5. 10. A Linux-based, Web-oriented operating system designed to boot quickly

    University essay from RTSLAB - Laboratoriet för realtidssystem; Tekniska högskolan

    Author : Ulf Magnusson; [2011]
    Keywords : Linux; Boot time; WebOS; Web Operating System; Netbook; Embedded systems;

    Abstract : This thesis describes the design and implementation of a Linux-based, Web-oriented operating system called Awesom-O, designed with a focus on short boot time and small disk footprint. Among other techniques for lowering boot time, a semi-automatic method for generating a Linux kernel of minimal size for a given platform is developed, making use of an interpreter for the Linux kernel’s configuration language, Kconfig.
