  1. 16. Investigation into the anomalous trigger rates in the IceCube Neutrino Observatory on Febraury 5th 2013

    University essay from

    Author : Simon Olofsson; Erik Setterquist; [2013]
    Keywords : IceCube; IceCube;

    Abstract : On February 5th 2013, a 9.09σ deviation in noise and muon triggerrates lasting 1.5s was detected in the IceCube Neutrino Observatoryon the South Pole, which triggered a supernova alert. Thisinvestigation has studied the noise and angular distributions of the9. READ MORE

  2. 17. Reconstruction of PINGU data with a Differential Evolution Minimizer

    University essay from Högenergifysik

    Author : Raab Christoph; [2013]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The Precision IceCube Next Generation Upgrade (PINGU) is supposed to have an energy threshold below 10 in order to resolve the neutrino mass hierarchy. In order to reconstruct the energy and direction of neutrinos interacting in this array, producing both a hadronic cascade and a muon track, advanced reconstruction methods need to be employed. 3. 18. Dark Matter Signatures in Cosmic Gamma-Rays

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Teoretisk partikelfysik - Geonomgår omorganisation

    Author : Jonas Wessén; [2012]
    Keywords : gravitino; 130 GeV line; IACT; MAGIC; indirect dark matter detection; decaying dark datter; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : This thesis concentrates on one of the indirect Dark Matter (DM) detection methods, namely through observations of Very High Energy (VHE) $\gamma$-ray signals from DM annihilation (or decay) in cosmic sources using the Imaging Atmospheric Cherenkov Technique (IACT). We discuss the particle physics and astrophysical aspects of those observations and perform several calculations which lead to an estimation of the DM detection prospects for IACTs. READ MORE

  4. 19. An FPGA implementation of neutrino track detection for the IceCube telescope

    University essay from Datorteknik

    Author : Carl Wernhoff; [2010]
    Keywords : FPGA; IceCube; neutrino; telescope; south pole; trigger; Track Engine;

    Abstract : The IceCube telescope is built within the ice at the geographical South Pole in the middle of the Antarctica continent. The purpose of the telescope is to detect muon neutrinos, the muon neutrino being an elementary particle with minuscule mass coming from space. The detector consists of some 5000 DOMs registering photon hits (light). READ MORE
