  1. 1. Multi-spectral X-ray imaging with a laser-plasma accelerator

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Atomfysik; Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen

    Author : Andrea Angella; [2022]
    Keywords : Multi-spectral imaging; single-photon counting; X-ray absorption spectroscopy; XAS; LWFA; laser-wakefield acceleration; K-edge; imaging; metal-detection algorithm; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : This master thesis focuses on the creation of an algorithm to perform multispectral imaging of a metallic target using X-rays. The generation of an ultrashort high-power low-divergent X-ray beam is performed by means of a Ti:Sapphire laser driven wake-field plasma accelerator. READ MORE

  2. 2. Relativistic attosecond electron pulses by laser wakefield acceleration

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Atomfysik; Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen

    Author : Cornelia Gustafsson; [2020]
    Keywords : laser wakefield accelerator; laser wakefield acceleration; attosecond; electron pulses; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : The search for cheaper and more compact accelerators has led to the development of laser-driven plasma-based accelerators. In comparison to conventional particle accelerators, the plasma-based accelerator is inherently insensitive to the breakdown of the acceleration structure and therefore greater accelerating fields can be obtained. 3. 3. Transient Plasma Photonic Crystals - A Route Towards Slow Ultra-intense Light?

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Atomfysik; Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen

    Author : Robin Weissenbilder; [2018]
    Keywords : slow; light; plasma; photonic; crystal; transient; ultra-intense; short; pulse; laser; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : Periodic electron and ion density modulations in near critical density plasmas induced by counterpropagating femtosecond pulses of intensities on the order of 10¹⁵ to 10¹⁶ Wcm⁻² are described in a linear and stationary regime and investigated using particle-in-cell simulations in one and two dimensions. The periodic gratings produce transient plasma photonic crystals lasting up to several picoseconds with ultra-wide angle-selective band gaps on the order of Δω/ω₀ ≈ 10-20%. READ MORE

  4. 4. In-line Phase-contrast Tomography using Betatron X-rays Produced by a Laser-Plasma Accelerator

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Atomfysik; Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen

    Author : Kristoffer Svendsen; [2017]
    Keywords : source size; x-ray; in-line; phase-contrast; phase contrast; LWFA; laser wakefield acceleration; tomography; diffraction; diffraction simulation; laser-plasma acceleration; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : X-ray phase-contrast imaging is a powerful technique that allows great resolving power for low absorbing samples, such as biological tissue. This method relies on measuring the phase shift induced by the sample instead of the absorption traditional radiography relies on. READ MORE

  5. 5. Exploring the Use of Graphene as a Target Material for Laser Plasma Ion Acceleration

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen; Lunds universitet/Atomfysik

    Author : Hannes Pahl; [2017]
    Keywords : Laser Plasma Acceleration; Target Material; Graphene; Physics and Astronomy;

    Abstract : The interaction of a solid target with an ultra-high intensity laser pulse can result in the laser plasma acceleration of ions. The recent proposal of a new laser plasma ion acceleration scheme, named chirped standing wave acceleration, has created interest in a new class of ultra-thin solid target materials, either freestanding or as a part of novel compound targets.
