    Abstract : This paper analyses the pivotal gothic novel Frankenstein by Mary Shelley through a close queer reading, focusing on excerpts featuring the artificially created creature and their maker, Victor Frankenstein. The queer perspective is applied to the gender identity and expression of the creature, which is a reading that lends itself to the teaching of the novel to Swedish upper-secondary students because of the timelessness of the themes and its close ties to the 2022 recommendations of the Swedish National Agency for Education regarding sexuality, consent, and relationships.
