  1. 6. Evaluating the Performance of a Solar Thermal Field: A Case Study with Proposed Improvements

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Institutionen för energivetenskaper

    Author : Anton Segovia Lundh; [2023]
    Keywords : solar thermal; concentrated solar power CSP ; renewable energy; performance evaluation; Technology and Engineering;

    Abstract : Given the urgency of climate change, alternative energy sources, and policy strategies are needed to reach the net-zero emission goals and halt global warming. Solar thermal energy is a renewable and abundant energy source that could be a part of the solution. READ MORE

  2. 7. Developing an ML-based model for RF tuning of the DTL machine at ESS

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Institutionen för reglerteknik

    Author : Amin Hosseini Nejad; [2023]
    Keywords : Technology and Engineering;

    Abstract : The European Spallation Source (ESS) infrastructure is being constructed in Lund, and will be one of the most powerful research facilities of its type in the world. The ESS linear accelerator (linac) utilizes different accelerating sections where a wide variety of techniques should be employed to accelerate a beam of protons to 2 GeV kinetic energy through Radio Frequency (RF) cavities before being collided with a tungsten target for the final production of neutrons, through the process of spallation. 3. 8. Reprocessing and Characterization of Polybenzimidazole for High-Temperature Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel Cells

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Centrum för analys och syntes

    Author : Douglas Björkengren; [2023]
    Keywords : polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells; PEMFC; HTPEMFC; polymer technology; polymer characterization; reprocessing; recycling; polybenzimidazole; PBI; Technology and Engineering;

    Abstract : A reprocessing method of poly(2,2’-(m-phenylene)-5,5’-bibenzimidazole) (PBI) membranes recovered from the production line of High-Temperature Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel Cells (HT-PEMFC) at Blue World Technologies (BWT) has been developed in order to reduce material loss in the production. Redissolution of scrap PBI membranes in poly(phosphoric acid) (PPA) and phosphoric acid (PA) was successful and the subsequent washing procedure produced PBI that could be redissolved in N,N-dimethyl acetamide (DMAc) and suitable for solution casting of new membranes. 4. 9. Pre-study for SMR and Nuclear Establishment in Norway

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Institutionen för energivetenskaper

    Author : Johan Stefan Nordström; [2023]
    Keywords : Energy mapping; Nuclear power; SMR; small modular reactors; siting; Norway; Energy; Technology and Engineering;

    Abstract : Norway has Europe’s highest share of renewable electricity production and the lowest power sector emissions. Thanks to the country’s stable power production, Norway has affordable and stable access to electricity, leading to industries choosing to relocate to the country. READ MORE

  5. 10. Assessment of the integration of solar heat power into food drying processes

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Institutionen för energivetenskaper

    Author : Charalampos Psilopoulos; [2023]
    Keywords : Sustainable; sustainability; co2 reduction; feasibility; solar thermal; direct steam generation; drying; food industry; scope 1 emissions; sdg; sustainable development goals; spray drying; drum drying; powder; food; Technology and Engineering;

    Abstract : The long-lasting usage of fossil fuels has brought its negative impact on the planet and thus the society is turning towards more environmentally sustainable solutions in every aspect of life. This master’s thesis discusses the novel topic of integrating concentrated solar thermal collectors, which directly produce steam, to drying processes in the food industry, which is proven to currently emit significant amounts of Greenhouse Gases (GHGs).
