  1. 1. Volumetric Image Segmentation of Lizard Brains

    University essay from KTH/Tillämpad fysik

    Author : Yulia Dragunova; [2023]
    Keywords : image segmentation; deep learning; atlas; lizard brain; micro-CT; image augmentation; bild segmentering; djupinlärning; atlas; ödelhjärna; mikro-datortomagrofi; datautökning;

    Abstract : Accurate measurement brain region volumes are important in studying brain plasticity, which brings insight into the fundamental mechanisms in animal, memory, cognitive, and behavior research. The traditional methods of brain volume measurements are ellipsoid or histology. READ MORE

  2. 2. Development of Advanced X-ray Micro-Tomography Helical Scan andTomographic Data Processing

    University essay from Högskolan i Gävle/Avdelningen för elektroteknik, matematik och naturvetenskap

    Author : Yoseph Abraham; [2023]
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Micro-computed tomography (Micro-CT) is an imaging technique that allows for high-resolution,three-dimensional (3D) internal visualization of small objects in a non-destructive manner. However,a significant limitation arises when attempting to image elongated samples at higher resolutions andmagnifications due to the inherently small field of view (FOV). READ MORE

  3. 3. Micro-CT based finite element models for mechanical strength assessment of glass ceramic scaffolds obtained through the robocasting technique

    University essay from KTH/Hållfasthetslära

    Author : Gustav Thessén; [2022]
    Keywords : µ-CT modelling; phase-field method; bio-glass scaffolds; strength assessment; Mikrotomografi; μ-CT; fasfältsmetoden; bio-glas stödstrukturer; brottgräns;

    Abstract : In this thesis, micro computed tomography (μ−CT) scans of a bio-glass scaffold produced by the robocasting technique was used to create finite element method (FEM) models with the purpose of determining its mechanical strength. Prior to this, a Matlab script was used to create several simplified geometries of the scaffold in an effort to determine the importance of scaffold design parameters (such as the fiber compenetration between two adjacent printing planes) on the strength of the scaffold. 4. 4. Synchrotron X-ray Tomography Study of Bone-implant Integration

    University essay from Lunds universitet/Avdelningen för Biomedicinsk teknik

    Author : Ornella Lohéac; [2021]
    Keywords : Bone-implant; Digital volume correlation; Micro-computed tomography; PEEK; Synchrotron; Technology and Engineering;

    Abstract : Implant loosening is a recurring problem in the field of orthopedics, typically resulting in a physical and financial burden for the patient. Proper integration of orthopedic implants within host bones is a fundamental requirement for the successful function and limited risk of failure of implants which, in-vivo, must support various loading conditions. 5. 5. An Analysis of Growth and Aging in a Tyrannosaurus rex through Histology and Synchrotron Micro-Tomography

    University essay from Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaper

    Author : Xanthe Sifra Bijl; [2019]
    Keywords : Tyrannosaurus rex; palaeohistology; skeletochronology; synchrotron micro-tomography; Tyrannosaurus rex; palaeohistologie; skeletochronologie; synchrotron mikro-tomographie;

    Abstract : Size comparisons, skeletochronological, and palaeohistological studies have been major contributors in the past decades to expand our knowledge on how dinosaurs, including Tyrannosaurus rex, lived and grew. Historically, size comparisons have been used to establish a relative order of age, and thin sections have been used to study the palaeohistology and skeletochronology, as well as establish growth curves, to construct more quantifiable age determinants.
